Only in the sense that the bartender figured he could get away with it for that particular beer .

    Entitled? No.

But @ericwo was right on the mark that it is a regular practice or norm to give you the free pint. So to whatever extent it is appropriate to be miffed about them not living up to that norm is what I would say.

Maybe OP was too strong with use of 'entitled'.

"Here, we ran out of our product we agreed to sell you, but we'll still charge you the full price since you agreed to that when you ordered."

That's how I read the scenario in the OP.

No self respecting bar should charge for less than a full pour. I've never paid for a keg killer of a pour either. I'd take it out of his tip if he/ she charged me.

I was a bar tender for many years and I always gave them the half-pour on the house. Crazy that someone would charge full price for it. That may even be against the law.

If a bartender gave me a glass half full and was trying to charge me full price, I would laugh, tell him/her I didn't want it, make them take it off my bill and order something else. If they refuse, you are either at a terrible bar who hires even more terrible servers, or you haven't found the manager yet because that stuff wouldn't fly with any competent bar manager.

No, you're not entitled to that half beer for free. You're not entitled to anything. The tender may offer you a discount, but even that you are not entitled to. The only thing you are entitled to is refusing to pay for a product you didn't touch or consume that was not given to you as advertised. If your glass was the glass that kicked the keg, they have already made their money back 10x over on the keg. I have never been to a reputable beer bar that would not make that transaction right.

If all else fails, call your bank, credit card company and dispute the charge and let the bar deal with the consequences. If you were made to pay full price for half a beer, and you willingly paid it that's your fault for not sticking up for yourself. If you paid it and paid it in cash, you're just a s--- out of luck dummy.

I voted "No" before reading the full description - a beer at half price isn't a properly poured/served beer. The server should either take it away or (more likely) just give it for free. With good service comes great tips (my mantra).

Why dump it? He can slide it to you instead of draining it. Good for you good for him you leave him a bigger tip.

No never. It's bad for business, and bad for their wallet. Any half pours are always comped, entitled? No, but I've never ever been charged or they have never taken it back and dumped it. Hell I'd find a new bar if they dumped it.

I would say yes, especially if you paid full price for a half-pour. At least they should give you a half-glass of something else to compensate.

    I see this as a glass-half-empty scenario.

Yea, why dump it? It's a small cost to eat occasionally, but you can bet the customer will appreciate it and a spread a positive word or two about the place.

I am no more entitled to a free beer than a establishment is entitled to full price for less than a full pour.

No. What I've had happen (and consequently done later as a bar manager) is I'll give them the half-glass of blown-keg for free and they'll get a different beer since they've already paid.

The downside about that half of a beer from the blown keg is that it tastes pretty awful and is likely flat. Their choice if they want to keep it.

the only way anyone is getting charged full price for a half pour is when that anyone is also an asshole.
    guaranteed.

of course if you ordered a pint you don't need to accept a half pint. you get nothing. you lose. good day sir.
    Cheers.

This happened to me once...a place here in PA had Pliny the Younger on tap...I kicked the keg and got about 3/4's of a glass...they told me it was on the house. Pretty cool of them. I would never pay full price for less than half a beer but I wouldn't have argued with them if they had told me to pay 3/4's the price.

I was very happy with the free pour though.

If you order a full pour, you should get a full pour or the establishment should tell you they're out. If they want to give you a partial pour for free, good on them, but none of this half-price b.s. Of course, whenever a server gives you a free beer (half pour of otherwise), you should also tip extra generously.

I'm gonna admit I haven't read the OP, but the man that makes it so every adult in the country gets a free beer deserves a Nobel freaking Peace Prize.
