Planning on doing this blind taster tomorrow. I will update when finished. I think I got a relatively solid lineup

    -Surly Darkness 2014
    -Indeed Rum King 2014
-Goose Island Bourbon Barrel Stout 2014
-Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Stout 2014

I really like all of them so I have no idea how they will finish. Have not had any of them for at least three months so the buds should be fresh.

I feel like these would be pretty easy to tell apart, but sounds fun!

might suggest removing rum king or at least adding a few others to blend the field a little more. rum king is going to easily stand out in that crowd. $.02.

clown shoes just came out with a rum barrel aged stout if i recall right.

I would add a Clown Shoes BA stout. They are easy to find and pretty damn good. Enjoy.

Not in my area unfortunately. These are it. I've only had one of each of these this year (last year) so we'll see how it shakes out.

Are you thinking the rum barrel aging will stand out different? You might be right...going to give it a shot anyhow..

We'll see....I'm going to guess each beer too. I feel like I might hit all four but who knows in blind tastings..

What I'm taking away from this is @ZAP is going to have a really good time watching Charlton Heston on TV tomorrow and he's not working on Monday.

Good plan. Gonna do the water in between trick? Maybe with some sharp cheddar and summer sausage?

Just completed this. Wow. As expected a very strong field. Wife poured into four glasses and wrote down what was what. I rated then guessed what was in each glass. In the end I did guess all four correctly. I put them in this order with some brief comments.

    1. Goose Island BCS: Great vanilla/nougat impressions both on the aroma and taste. Excellent aroma and best body of the group. Full flavored.

    2. Darkness: Right there with the top pick in the taste department but aroma and body come up short in comparison side by side.

    3. Central Waters: A sizable drop to the #3 spot but still a heck of a beer. The aroma on this one is right there with the top pick (GI). Definitely thinner in flavor and body and surprisingly the most booziest/alcohol laden notes on the taste.

    4. Indeed Rum King: I was curious if I could pick the rum barrel aged beer out and it was evident. Or so I thought and I was right. I like this beer. It's just different as you'd expect. I actually picked up some smoky notes, and the finish was definitely a little more astringent. Excellent full body though and I liked the flavors. It was in the mix to be in the #3 spot but in the end I decided to go with what I thought were the three BB aged beers in the top three slots. I like this and will buy it again next year.

So there you go. Now I have the remains to finish...should be a great day.

i wasnt much a fan of rum king. i had it on tap at Grizzlys when they did their barrel aged night. easily my least favorite.

for the money, CW is great. of course, would take BCBS over it any day but personally love almost all of CW barrel aged series. their scotch ale is my favorite.

if i did something similar, would probably do something along the lines of Darkness, Double Black, BA Silhouette, and BCBS. seems like it would be a tough field.
