Epic Stout Tasting IV...

Every year this comes up I have something going on.
This year, sadly, is no different ;(

My friend @McRyan and I will be there. We're both noobs. I've been to NOSH a bunch, but never for the EST, looking forward to it!

 

My wife & I are in if you'll have us - sorry to have missed it last year. @jawzman puts on a fantastic bottle share!

 

There is a height requirement

 

Obviously a noob to BA as well, is height a reference to making sure I bring whales or are we riding a roller coaster?

I hardly know enough to refer to whales, but not sure what qualifies... How about a 2010 Firestone Walker Parabola?

 

^ that'll share nicely. I was joking about the "whales," because nobody really agrees as to what constitutes a "whale" anymore. Let's just share some awesome beers and meet other MN beer advocates!

 

From the people there last year, what was the biggest "whale"? The CFH probably? the KH was amazing, the Dark Lord vertical was @jawzman being awesome, like always. It was a ridiculous Bourbon County event.

 

I am pretty sure I am in on this if it's still open, love to meet all you BA'ers and I have some bottles to share that will "qualify" I believe. Oh one other question, I know this is a "stout" tasting, but what about sour/hops palate cleansers, are those allowed? Like if I bring a cantillon, am I going to get boo'ed out of the place?

 

@stealth brought some palate cleansers last year and although I am not a huge sour fan, it was nice to give the taste buds a jolt or change from the stouts every hour or so. I may bring some homebrew IPA to get some feedback as well as give people the choice later in the night.

For me the hit last year was the KH. The DL vertical was fun to try as it was amazing the difference between the beers. You know it is a good evening when there is a 6 (or was it 7?) year vertical of BCBS sitting unopened on the table because you couldn't get to it.

 

@stealth cannot help but bring the funk. He's a sour person, generally.

 

Any wives/gf's attend? I always have better luck getting a permission slip if she can come with. Something about "I'm going to get drunk with strangers off the internet and I'll be home eventually" doesn't really sit well with her.

 

There were plenty of significant others last year.

 

By the way, you should let us know whether you are bringing your wife or your girlfriend. We need to know, so we don't slip up and ruin your cover....

Unfortunately, I won't be there this year. My wife has been looking forward to Winterfest since last year; we have tickets for Saturday night. Thanks for hosting this, though, @jawzman !

We will be making a run down there soon and I will bring some goodies to share.
