Espresso oak aged yeti

    Hi all, I have a bottle of oak aged espresso yeti bottled on 12/24/13, that I purchased this past April. Guy at store said it would age well for a few years, but I really don't want the coffee to drop...leads to my question. I wanted to wait until cooler months(late October/early November) to drink but not at the cost of coffee dropping off(even more than it maybe already has). Anyone have an opinion on what this bear is like with roughly 9-months on it? I have stored it at room temp in dark closet

    I've had virtually all the Yeti variants with anywhere from a week to two years of age on them and never have I been disappointed. I think the oldest I've had Espresso Yeti was one year, but it was still delicious. The coffee in that variant is very roasty and with the hops toned down it shines brightly even after 6 months to a year in my experience.

    The Espresso Yeti is a coffee bomb fresh, takes quite a bit of time to mellow it out. You'll be fine on that bottle.

    If in October you find that the coffee has fallen off hit me up and I'll send you a fresh one....usually see them around here often.

    As a general rule, don't age a coffee beer if you want to drink a coffee beer. The intensity and quality of coffee flavor arguably drops off faster than hop flavor/intensity. This is not to say that the flavor will not be there, it is just likely to be a shadow of its former self. Again, my comments are completely regarding coffee flavor, not how enjoyable the beer may be.

    At this point, I am not sure another couple months is going to make a huge difference. If you feel the beer will be more enjoyable come some cooler temperatures, it is worth holding out. The amount the coffee flavor may drop off between now and then may be negligible compared to drinking the beer in a setting you prefer rather than rushing to drink it out of "necessity".

    If you want to slow down the aging, keep it in the fridge.

    I would give it two years max though I suspect its reached its peak already.

    I recently had a early 2012 bottle. Plenty of coffee left, but is a shell of the former great coffee note. I'd drink it sooner than later, but it wasn't a bad beer, just different.

    Im not big coffe fan. So I like mine with a couple years on them. I have two bottles from 2011. Had one couple months ago. It was delicious. The Coffee had faded to a nice subtle.

    Slight tangent, but check the cap carefully! I recently had an Oatmeal Yeti with a rusted out cap and a horrible infected flavor.

    Wouldn't be fresh in October... Espresso Yeti is the Jan-Mar seasonal
