I'll say it again. What does them being guys have to do with anything? Do you also complain that Anthony Bourdain, whose show is most entertaining when he's drinking heavily, is a guy?

I've watched Brew Dogs and have enjoyed it for the most part because it is at least something about craft beer to watch. I would prefer Brew Masters on Discovery Channel. It followed Dogfish Head, but major brewing companies threatened to pull ads, so they canned the show.
I have not watched the Best Bars and after the reviews on here, I won't waste my time. I tried to watch the brewing show on the History Channel, but they tried to be like Duck Dynasty.
Overall, Brew Dogs isn't bad, they just make off-the-wall stuff and that's so it will appeal to more crowds.

I never complained about the hosts being men, so I'm assuming you misread my original post. The gender comment was a secondary component of the post and a simple personal observation about gender expectations, nothing more. So happily, there's no need for anyone to go on the defensive.

Some shows have been entertaining, others meh. The New Orleans episode was one of the better ones. The Austin one just reminds me I need to get my ass down there some day...

Didn't know people actually watched Best Bars. Will have to take a gander. I feel brewdog like their beers are gimmicky, so I would assume their show is the same. I do enjoy their take on beer styles, but quite pricey for a 2nd round. Must be the import taxes or etc.

I can't stand watching obviously scripted conversations being presented as organic discussion, and BrewDogs is full of it. Makes it pretty much unwatchable as far as I'm concerned.

I enjoy Brew Dogs. Love them rating the top 5 Beer Bars in the city they are in, and the 5 top Breweries. Good info for anyone visiting or anyone who has been there. And I find James and Martin entertaining and genuine. They love good beer like we all do, always promote the breweries or local beers they are enjoying, and love to try to turn non-craft drinkers onto craft beer. (The opening of the show with that girl saying "I don't like it" after tasting a stout is great.)
And if you are a home brewer, you have to appreciate them trying to explain the brewing process to their audience. Who cares they are usually making stupid beers for entertainment purposes, it's not like we have to drink them.
There does seem to be a lot of disdain for them in these threads because they don't quite talk like we do, which is troubling.

Best Bars is a good concept, but a terrible show. The hosts are just plain boring. You can't have 2 comedians hosting who nobody has every heard of and who just are not funny at all.
That show could work with the right host, sort of like a DDD with Guy Fieri, only on the bar trail. Would DDD work if 2 comedians hosted it? You need hosts who know the business they are visiting.
That's why Anthony Bourdain's shows work, he is a chef, a drinker, and more importantly, an interesting guy.
Either way, I will watch both those shows over the reality crap that is everywhere else on TV.

I agree with GoGators. Best Bars just doesn't hold my attention. I enjoy Brewdogs, but end up fast-forwarding through a lot of the tree climbing and desert wandering for ingredients. The 5 Best Bars and Breweries is always interesting to learn about new breweries and brews.

I watched Brew Dogs once. Just once.

I'd like too see "Best Craft Bars and Breweries/Brewpubs You Can Buy A Beer At" show, pairing a comedian type and and a craft afficianado. different cities, talk about the food they serve, crowds, etc.

I enjoy Brew Dogs for what it is. They are appealing to craft drinkers and beer novices alike. I find the two Brew Dog guys to be mostly entertaining, and I love the beer bar and best 5 brewery segment of the show. Some of the beers that they've brewed have been interesting ingredient wise, I just don't care for the gimmicky way they brew them in some episodes. For example, In Delaware they brewed on a truck bed going around a race track...silliness. All in all though I like it quite a bit.

Never seen the best bar show so I can't say much about that. Also, hooray first post!

I watched Best Bars once, and I won't again. Those two guys come off as self-proclaimed experts, but I have my doubts.

Brew Dogs was a good show, and I watched all of them this year and last year. If anyone wants to do a search to read more dialogue about Brew Dogs, there have been previous threads about the series when it was going thru its first run in May or June.

I think that Brew Dogs is very enjoyable. Take it for what it is-a destination/travel show wrapped in the cloth of craft beer.

Now the real question, when is Esquire going to get new episodes of Friday Night Tykes on?

Who is giving them credit in the first place? I have never seen either show and what little I know about them I learned from this message board. It seems likely that the Best Bars duo would receive scorn, or at least indifference, from BAs, but certainly not "credit". I neither know nor care what the "public in general" thinks about them.

I have seen and enjoyed the show Beer Geeks, which may be more up your alley.

I've watched them both and find them both entertaining (I have my DVR set to record both as they seem to be on at irregular times - and to skip the endless commericials) - that's what TV is - entertainment. I have to think if anyone expects much more out of a TV show they are setting themselves up for disappointment.
