Established breweries vs. beer trends.

    I didn't see that. Both are classics, and listed as commercial examples to try by the BJCP.

    This may show how far the pendulum has swung from what were beers that were different back in the day.

    I only got to where Bill said IPAs and everything else, and chuckled. That line is often used in Homebrew competitions.

    One category that has grown fast is American Wild Ales. That can be another big category for a competition. Trends like that are often seen in commercial beers a little later.

    When someone is looking at price, that can be a big factor.
    FWIW, most places I shop the SN beers are reasonably fresh - almost never over a month past bottling. (and I know that a lot of people here consider that drain pour territory, but SN does seem to last longer than many other beers)
    However, at $15 or so for a 12 pack versus $18 - $20 or more, if you're looking at a 6-pack, at 10 - 12 or more, Torpedo is a great value.

    They stay relevant because they don't cut corners are try to re-invent the wheel. However I think it's no fun seeing Sierra Nevada release fruity dumb beer.
