So last weekend I went to a bluegrass festival (The Fresh Grass Bluegrass Festival) at The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art out in North Adams MA. The Peoples Pint brewing co, out of Greenfield MA, made an IPA exclusively for this weekend long concert. It was called 'Fresh Grass IPA' and it was delicious. It wasn't one of my alltime favorites by any means but it definitely added to my excitement for being there, I thought that was really cool of them. Has anyone else ever been to an event where a company has offered a certain brew solely for that one single event?
Hoppin' Frog Café BORIS. It made an appearance at a couple of events. I haven't seen or heard about it in awhile, but needless to say it was awesome.. Southern Tier also brewed a pale ale exclusively for Cleveland Beer Week last year called I-90.
That Cafe' BORIS sounds awesome based on the couple reviews on here. I haven't had too many of Hoppin Frogs beers but I do have a year old Frosted Frog in my cellar. I just grabbed it a couple weeks ago from my local spot almost at cost. I'm surprised more companies don't do this though, at the very least for publicity purposes. That 'fresh grass ipa' really made them stand out compared to the other beers available because the name obviously rings a bell right away plus the employees at the fest were pushing it like crazy.
Years ago (1996) I visited De Dolle on my honeymoon. We were talking to the brewer and it turns out he had just gotten married on the same day we did. He told us that they brewed a special pale ale for the wedding and brought some out for my wife and I to try. I don't know what it was called, but remember thinking it was great at the time.
I've been to many festivals etc where brewers have made something specifically for the event. Some that were well received later became part of the portfolio. I'm sure that some brewers use these events to try out something different.
" For years we have brought our coffee beer tower to many events to pour our Silk Porter through fresh coffee beans for a super tasting festival beer offering! For many, it is the highlight of visiting the Hoppin’ Frog booth at a beer fest. Now, you can buy this tasty beer infusion in bottle form to take home! Price is $8.99 per bottle. Mixed case discounts apply." http://beerpulse.com/2012/10/hoppin-frog-cafe-silk-porter-bottles-just-released/ Im not sure but this may be what you were talking about.
This summer the Vermont Brewers Festival featured many collobration brews(Alchemis/Portsmouth, Lawson's/Maine Beer, Die du Ciel/Achemist, Trapp/Magic Hat, Zero Gravity/Wolavers plus a bunch of others) that were there only, or a very small amount on tap. This was a great way to get people to attend, as they may not every have a chance to sample some of these great brews.
I was talking about this beer.. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14879/60874/?sort=low&start=0 But I just grabbed a bottle of th Cafe Silk Porter that you're talking about. I haven't cracked it open yet though, but I have high hopes.
Of course you would have details on something Phish related. How silly of BA not to know that!! How about them Lions and Tigers buddy? Man......gotta hurt! What happened to #BearDown! Cheers!
FFF - Rye'd the Lightning was brewed for Reckless Records (famous Chicago records store) for Records Day 2012 http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/80432 http://www.reckless.com/wordpress/?p=1671 It's a really good beer, and the cool, and somewhat secret, thing is that even though it's not available for purchase anymore if you make a large purchase at Reckless ($100+) they'll give you a bottle for free for being a good customer.
SAVOR has had an event beer for the past two years. Terra Incognita was this year's beer and it was decent.
