Had it on tap today at City Bev. Very nice and smooth. The honey doesn't overpower it but it created a nice overall texture. Buddy of mine had it for the first time and thought it was borderline too sweet for him however, he did enjoy it. I tend to lean more towards the sweet side but do appreciate all attributes of a stout. this one did not disappoint.

I was there as well. Would have been cool to meet you guys!

I thought this version was as good as the original, and far better than last year's. Though a bit on the sweeter side, I think this beer does such a great job of balancing the stout character with the barreling. Neither overpowers. The bourbon comes across much more subtle than some of their other BBA brews, which I love. This beer solidified in my mind that this is THE best beer to come out of NC.

BCBS is a tad on the sweet side as well, it doesn't hide the greatness though.

I'll firmly place TEV in my rotating top 5 of best beers in our state. I would probably give the ever-so-slight edge to Lindley Park, but that is splitting hairs to the max.

I'll be honest, I was going to mention how this batch far surpassed its 2011 sibling. I don't know what it was exactly. Perhaps I should juxtapose them.

Sorry we did not meet up at the event. Guess we will just have to rendezvous another time for a brew.

Please don't take this the wrong way, as I mean to be inquisitive only. I thought in NC, only package stores and breweries (meaning: places that have off-premise sales permits) could sell beer to go, not retail (ie: bars, restaurants, etc.: where these places don't have those types of licenses). Can a bar/restaurant get these types of licenses? And is DWs selling the beer for this event? Like I said, I'm not accusing of legal issues, just trying to get clarification. I'd really hate to see the ALE walk in and hand out fines, etc.

Yes, any retailer (bars/restaurants/bottle shops/brewery taprooms/others) can get these permits in NC.
