I know the general consensus is, "Have one fresh and one with age, so there's an actual comparison," but I recently got an Event Horizon from last year. I'll almost definitely put it away for the colder months anyhow, but I was wondering how this beer develops.

I find this one to be at its best when it's fresh. I've had it with a couple of years on it, and I've had it fresh, I prefer it fresh

I didn't like the honey fresh, but that's my only complaint. Still a great beer. Age would likely make me like it more.

This is perfect at around the two year mark for me. Just enough to let the barrel aging level out and the honey to smooth things over. One of my favorites actually.

    This.

Had a 2013 bottle last night. Honey had smoothed a bit, barrel was there but not overpowering. I think a 2012 might be just right (for my tastes) if I can find one.

So I have a 2013 in my cellar currently. I'm a subscriber to the "drink good dark beers when it's cold" idea (it's truly the one reason to enjoy winter in New England). Maybe drink this Event Horizon next winter then. I'm okay with this.

I like them best with a year of age on it. So smooth and delicious. Its a great beer.

I have one in the cellar right now, wondering how the flavors will develop, so glad of this thread. How pronounced is the honey when fresh (well, I have a few months on it)? I think I actively want some of the honey character, so want to catch it while still present. How steep is the decline curve? And how does the oak/bourbon evolve? I'd rather err on the side of a bit too much of everything. Besides the ideal point, how long is the window around that point? Not to get too, um, detailed....

Looks like one to two years, depending on your tastes. I've got a 2013 that I'm beginning to think will hang out until late 2015.

What does it take to trade for this beer? I've done some forum searching, but with all of this Assassin madness, it seems to be a bit buried.

How do I get in on that deal? If anyone has 1-2 extra 13's let me know. Same goes for 14' I guess.

I found a case on shelf at Appalachian Vintner end of February. Doubt they're still there now, but there is a solid amount that goes into distro. Should be easy to find after it's release around NC.
