I only drink my beers at room temperature if the room is 90 degrees. Anything cooler and the beer is way to refreshing.

I too enjoy my higher abv stouts from fridge but better once they warm up.

Hundreds of times, sometimes by plan and others out of necessity. Dark beers I usually drink over a period of time, tend to warm to room temperature and taste better that way. Mass produced river floating beers have warmed on trips and have been thrown back with ease...it's all relative...cold, warm, fresh or stale...sometimes you have to take one for the team.

I've done this before as a side by side with the same beer cellar vs room temp. You definitely get different flavors, I'd have to say which I prefer depends on the type and even varies from beer to beer. I think you should try this too since your last sip, especially with a high ABV beer like a heavy or BA stout is likely influenced by the alcohol.

depends on the beer but yeah def have. stouts always seem more complex as they warm to me. even simple one note ones.

My thoughts exactly, a lot of the time my friends and I buy beer throughout the week and get together on the weekend to share what we've purchased. Any barleywine, stout, quad, etc...I will store in my cellar until the weekend and ipa's etc...I put in the fridge. I had the same experience as the OP with a De Molen Kopi, felt like I wasted the beer when I got to the last couple sips and realized it tasted completely different in an epically better way at room temp. This beer cost $11 for 12oz haha, so to say the least I was bummed and have not made this mistake since.

I prefer cold beer, and I even freeze my glasses in the winter.

Presently I am in Qingdao for a few months (Tsingtao Beer) and everyone here drinks room temp beer all year round. This is the most famous beer city in China.

Every single dinner meeting we have, at every single restaurant there is a cases of Tsingtao 22 ounce bombers in the sitting in the corner. The cost is around 40 yuan for 12 bottles (roughly $6 USD) and Tsingtao is considered luxury.

The ritual here is everyone (the males at the table) gets a 6 ounce glass and their own 22, and you cannot drink unless you toast someone, or someone else toasts you. This is the Chinese beer culture.

All the breweries here were setup during the German occupation during the early 1900's.

I can honestly say that once used to drinking it room temp it's okay, but Tsingtao is everywhere here and it is a green bottle beer and sometimes tastes sour like Heineken.

I'll be happy once back in the states and I can grab some DIPA's, Red ales and domestic helles lagers.

I like to drink my beers inside of a walk-in freezer.
That way, I can start with my beers at room temperature, and taste how they change as they cool down.

Kidding - I haven't tasted a single beer that I prefer room temperature (if room temperature is defined as 70 degrees). Some beers are obviously better warmer than others, but once a beer actually gets to room temperature, I think it's too warm for my personal tastes.
