Yes. I really don't see how people get so crazy about it. It's a chemical high grav concoction of E numbers and crap thrown together to make it crystal clear piss yellow and all pretty and fizzy. If you're gonna have more than one Duvel, I hope you like burping and farting, because that's what you'll be doing for a LOOONG time after.

Yeah, not a fan  Leave alone the Tripel Hop editions, which are basically exactly the same beer with some added hop extract. We fall for the whole Duvel and general Belgian "special beer" marketing scheme, but consumers abroad possibly even more so. It simply gets added value because it's Belgian. I swear if they didn't mention the word "Belgian" on the bottle or case, it wouldn't sell nearly as much.

I once saw a guy (presumably a BMC drinking novice) freak out and get super offended because he ordered a craft beer and it came in one of those heavy goblets. "I aint no fagitt I ain't drinkin outa no frenchy wine glass Immmm mmmerikin dammit". The bartender cut him off, poured out the beer and ejected him, which was hilarious. To be fair he was wasted, but you really could not tell till he shot his mouth off. Bartender said she'd had previous experience with him and his buddy, so there ya go.

    Respect Beer.

Thats cool I guess but how someone can enjoy that corn and rise taste after having "real" beer I have no idea.

Met a Budweiser rep from the East Coast a few years ago in the downtown area here. He fed me a lot of misinformation, that only time and research could prove incorrect. For instance he told me that only US beer was non pasteurized, and most of this was Budweiser . He told me that all bottled Belgian beer was flash pasteurized ( no mention whatsoever about bottle conditioning, and I'm afraid back in those days I did not even know what bottle conditioning was myself). He also told me that it was a bad idea to put cider on tap because the cider permanently wrecked the tapline and no amount of cleaning solvent, or cleaning method would prevent the cider residue from souring future beers using that same tapline ( basically according to him the entire tapline would have to be replaced). If that isn't a macrosnob,I'm not sure who is!

lol, you can say what you want but I tried a duvel before I knew what it was or saw any ratings for it and absolutely loved it. Still do!

I'm a beer guy, brother. I like IPAs, dopplebocks, stouts, porters, helles, pils, and AALs.

You hesitate to call your friend a friend because he likes a specific beer? Grow the fuck up. My wife drinks bud light, maybe I should file for divorce. Some people...

I have a friend who refuses to drink anything but Budweiser, which is more of a brand loyalty thing but he likes to make the claim that "bud light platinum is one of the greatest beers ever made" when we go out to bars ha.

I still switch hit even on my own time. There are snobs on both sides of the fence and a lot of general misconceptions about beer.

I haven't encountered many macro "snobs." People who have their preference, sure: my dad prefers Coors, a co-worker loves Bud, but none of them pretend that it makes them better, or that their choice is somehow superior to anyone else's choice.

The closest I hear is related to the OP's experience: guys who won't touch that "Clydesdale piss!" but really, really love Guinness. Beyond sounding like 14 year olds who just discovered naughty words, it doesn't bother me, because from a quality standpoint, I think Guinness IS a much better beer than, well, BMC, even though it isn't my favorite.

That's not a macrosnob. That's just a guy using misinformation to try to make his product sound better i.e. a shady salesman.

they're very common and not talked about often enough, in my opinion.

One guy launched into a rant at a local brewpub and the key line in his rant was (roughly) "Why don't you sell normal beers?"

Also had a very recent social party at which an old retired airline pilot started our conversation by saying "oh, I see you drink those designer beers"

Macro beer snob, as in, someone who can tell the difference between a Bud light and a Miller light? Or that Coors is the best of the lot since it tastes cold and smooth. Yes, I insist that cold and smooth are attributes of taste.

--- Yea, I know a few of 'em.

Edit: --- Yea, I know a lot of 'em.

I don't think that's entirely false I know off hand at least a few places that have dedicated tap lines for ciders and fruit beers like Lindemans, NG Belgian Red, etc. one place which was a brew pub said the lines are permanently ruined for use with other beers not that you could never use them again but they would have to be fruit beers or ciders run through them otherwise you would have to replace the line.
