I've probably done about 20 trades in the last year, and a week ago I had my first bottle break and an "undeliverable" designation on a FedEx package. It's a long story, but everything else in the box was delivered to the recipient (great customer service!), and then about three days later I get a phone call from FedEx (they left a message) saying "It's illegal to ship alcohol...yada yada...we'll get fined if an adult doesn't receive it. You have to be licensed..." So no letter, no warning, just outright called. Anyone else get the "Do not pass GO and head straight to 'Jail'" card? Would anyone dare ship another box with FedEx under these circumstances, even if under a different account? Seems they're on to me and my address.

I've gotten that call. It's a formality. The woman was nice and even said that she just gets the notice from the hub etc and her job is just to call. She says they don't report how much or what kind of alcohol you were shipping. I wouldn't sweat it.

What would you say to that lady if she called you again after discovering another box with alcohol? It seems it can't be played off, right?

She was just calling to politely tell you to pack the shipment better.

"I let my friend ship out a box. I had no idea he put alcohol in it." I really wouldn't worry about it. It's in their best interest to keep you shipping out heavy boxes rather than self report you to the government over shipping a few beers.

In 4 years of trading I've yet to read about anyone actually getting fined for this. I'm sure it has likely happened but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If you are really scared, create a new account or start using UPS.

I got a letter when I had a bottle break.... The box also went on its way with all other bottles intact.

I have not changed anything about the way I ship... and saw no hiccups despite the letter.
