Ever have a great Dark saison?

Had a 2012 Pepe Nero few weeks ago. Pretty solid.

 

Funky Galaxy and Existent - both are great. I'd put FG on top if comparing the two.

 

A Saison Darkly is at the top of my list as well, along with Existent. And sure, Funky Galaxy and Bam Noire are fine beers. I didn't care for Pepe Nero, though.

At MWBBF this year, Destihl brought a really nice one called Saison de Noir (et Rouge) that was a dark saison aged in red wine barrels. Pretty great.

 

Just had a convo about Funky Galaxy. It's not a great brew, but it is enjoyable. If that makes sense. I had an aged bottle so the Galaxy hops were no more. The Brett funk was the showcase with the roasted malt backing and bubblegum finish.

 

SARA's Brackish is one of my favorite brews. Hope to see it on tap regularly.

 

HF Phenomenology of Spirit and Edith were both delicious.

 

I'm curious what others' thoughts are on Magic Hat's Seance, which purports itself to be a fall seasonal "dark saison".

 

Didn't wow me, must revisit some time...

 

Will be on the look out the next time I'm in AR or MO...

 

Green flash/St. Feuillien Friendship Brew

 

There is a new brewery in Cleveland called Platform. They had a killer dark saison (I hate saisons by the way but this one was great). They also had a sour wit on tap which was killer. I ended brewing one soon after.

Bam Noire? All of Dany's dark beers?

 

It didn't wow me either. Once I've had a brew and it's not earth shattering , I usually don't purchase again.

 

Just had my first Bam Noire last night. IMO, and it's just that, Bam rates way below Funky Galaxy and Existent.

BTW, Stillwater needs to make more. I have not seen it in a year.
