ever let an unfiltered IPA settle?

I was given a pack of an unfiltered IPA from Shed. Unfortunately it was 4+ months old when given to me. Trying not to be rude, I didn't drain pour it. I simply left it in the fridge and would offer it to non-craft people (with the disclaimer that I thought it was old). Basically it sat in the back from June til now, and was bottled in March- it's now over 7 months old. However, due to it sitting in the fridge undisturbed for that long, all of the perceivable particulates have settled out. And poured with care, it came out crystal clear. It actually tastes far better than it did in June.

Anyone have any experiences with letting unfiltered IPAs settle? Either old or young, deliberate or not.
