If someone has access to both craft beer and generic macros then they can make whatever choice they want. Plenty of people prefer Miller/Bud/Coors/Etc. to craft beer and I have no problem with that since it leaves more of the good stuff for the people who enjoy it. With that said, there is one exception...I've been trying to get my brother to like beer for a long time...I have finally found a few he likes...this is a personal mission of mine since it's pretty embarrassing that whenever we go out he orders his favorite Appletini.

I love Miller Lite guy. He's the dude who is clueless about craft and that's one less person trying to score a bottle of CBS or Black Ops or Cantillon or whatever.

Let's all raise our glasses and join in saluting Miller Lite guy! Keep drinking swill and stay the hell away from the good stuff...it's mine, all of it, or at least as much as I can get my grubby hands on!

    Yeah, exactly....

I'm pretty much with Kzoobrew on this. Sometimes, if I see someone in the store and they look like they could use some help, I'll try to make a recommendation (if that's what they want). However, one of the first things I'll ask is what they've had in the past and what sort of beers they like. For that matter, I'll also try to ascertain whether they're even interested in trying something new (a lot of BMC drinkers aren't). If they like lighter beers and have been happy/satisfied with those beers in the past, I'll actually steer them away from most craft beer. On the other hand, if their interested in trying something new, but don't want to buy something that's too great a departure from what they've had in the past, then I'll try to recommend a craft lager or amber or a wheat beer that I think is pretty good.

Every once in a while I'll encounter someone who really wants to jump off the deep end and try something that will completely blow away their palate. However, that doesn't happen very often, truth be told. I mean let's not kid ourselves here... most folks who are accustomed to drinking miller lite are not going to be very happy with a 6 pack of Hopslam or a 4 pack of FBS (both from a flavor standpoint AND from a price standpoint).

    Here here.

As someone else said above, I think it's okay to try and persuade friends to try certain beers, but dissuading is a douchey angle to swing in from.

Me, I couldn't give a flapping fart what anyone drinks - and frankly if they're not interested I'd rather they not neck down my delicious brews.

Well, it's quite a different matter if you work in the beer department. If I see anyone trying to make a decision between two or more options I will often give my recommendation and explain the rationale behind it. However that usually follows the question "May I help you find anything?"

I have a bud who orders a Frambroise every single time he goes out. Not after dinner as a dessert type beer . It is his go to style. I give him shit for it every time !

If I hear a conversation happening or see someone who generally looks like they would appreciate it I will not hesitate to throw out a suggestion. I have also been asked on occasion for advice. However I will never tell someone that the beer they have deliberately chosen sucks ass, even in a nice way. They will come around eventually.

Same reason I stopped trying to convince people to stop buying Mucinex products... they are pretty much set on their choice when they come in. I could tell them all the trials/data I want.. they still reach for what they "think" is best.

No, it's not my place. Believe it or not, there are people that actually like BMC, and prefer it to the taste of craft beer. We're not saving heathens from black magic here.

Couldnt agree more. The last thing I want is someone telling me the choice I made was wrong.

    Cheers!

If I see someone picking up a bottle I like and looking it over as if they're trying to decide, sometimes I'll say, "that's one of my favorites" or something like that. Half the time it's left at that, half the time it ends up a nice discussion about other brews.

That's perfectly acceptable. I mean, that's a nice lead in to a conversation. I can see myself saying something in that scenario.

I have, on and off the clock. If someone is buying one beer, but I know that another brewery makes a similar but better beer, I will try to steer them that way.

Only time I would ever try to change someone's choice of beer is if they are ordering a pitcher I am hoping to drink from.

Yeah, I can see how 2 months would ruin a beer. If its not bottled directly from the brewery and delivered "THAT" day, I don't purchase it.

It isn't any of your business, what do you care what someone else buys? It's their money.

We weren't standing in a grocery store, this is a shop that caters to the craft crowd. Their prices on BMC aren't that great, so the guy grabbed his case of Miller and was looking around. I am just saying sometimes it can be overwhelming to choose something different, and many guys are too proud to ask a clerk for advice.

Is it any of my business? No. I said as much in my original post. But I would have loved it had I found craft beer sooner, but everyone I knew drank BMC.

Who knows, maybe the guy would have told me to p!ss off, but I wouldn't had I been in his position because I think of it as anything else where you might say something, like in a golf shop if a guy is holding a driver you own, you wouldn't say, "hey, I have that one and I love it!" or something like that?

I actually mind my own business when shopping. It's my personal preference. If someone was to ask me, than I answer to the best of my knowledge. I see plenty of people purchasing BMC products at craft beer stores, my 1st thought is, "more craft for me."

<you wouldn't say, "hey, I have that one and I love it!" or something like that? >
No I wouldn't. I just don't want to be involved. If they were to ask me, than I would answer.
