Sounds crazy, but my wife and I have actually considered planning quick (2 or 3 day) vacations just to try particular brews. Granted, we would also try and enjoy whatever other activities the particular area offered. But I wondered if we are just crazy! Anyone else consider this? Or have done this? I would totally love a quick trip to Vermont to try some Topper!!

I've heard of it being done. I would do this if i had the opportunity.

We have definitely done this to pass through Vermont for the Topper/Farmstead/Lawson triad. Really any chance we get we will find some sort of brew-related activity.

Took the weekend of July 4th to go to VT and do just that. Left VT with a few Double Sunshine, Chinooker'd, HF Abner, Edward & 2 Everett. No HT though...

EDIT: Going to Philly in a month with the hopes of trying Pliny on tap.

Anyway, I feel like a lot of the really good breweries worth travelling for proooobbbbably have some pretty cool shit around them to make it a worthwhile trip. For instance, you could probably do a pretty nice hiking/camping trip in Vermont -- or skiing/snowboarding if the season permits.

Just got back from a Cali vacation that was planned simply for the sake of visiting Russian River and partaking of their offerings. So much fun we are planning on doing it again.

Crazy ... nothing new for me, perhaps in the US? Being doing it for years in Germany and Belgium and in more recent years the US. In May just gone I sampled 445 beers in 10 days in the US (7 states). That was the holiday, no time for anything else other than beer.

Jesus, that's just plain wrong. How can you not care or even devote time to anything else. That kind of beer tourism should be discouraged.

Because I am a grown up and choose to do what I want with my $$$.

Why should that be discouraged ?

Yes. Extended weekend just a few weeks ago, to Ft. Lauderdale/Oakland Park.

    It was well worth it.

If you can get yourself to Philly, we have enough BAs and great beer places here we could probably arrange to keep you busy for several days...

Thanks, that's very nice of you. I'm very keen for when I can eventually make a beer pilgrimage to the US...only been there once before when I was 14.

I plan all my vacation around what brewery is in the vicinity and what beers to bring home.

Do it!! There's a hell of a lot more great beer in Waterbury besides HT. Your flying in I would assume being in tx, I'd be there on Wed/Thurs/Fri when HT cans/ HF is open and not as crowded, and Lawsons delivers. I'd obviously partake and sight see, but I'd also ship boxes of beer home, I'm sure you can get a case of HT and bottles of Lawsons/ HF Growlers in a few boxes. If your going thru the expense in the first place, spend the money to ship stuff home too. Gotta be a Staples or similar around to get materials. Stay at the Old Stagecoach Inn, room #1 has a fireplace and its very nice.

And yes, I've made this trip twice, and I love it, but I hate the 1800 mile round trip drive, we also combine with seeing my son at Ft Drum NY.
