Yes our vacations are built around beer. Here's a list:

I think your better off taking what ever vacations you would normally take and looking for good beer in those places. There's no beer in the world I would plan a trip further than my local liquor store for. Beer should enhance your experiences not be the actual experience itself. It would be much cheaper to simply trade or have someone pick up and ship you beers you'd like to try but can't get. I always enjoy beer better with my friends at home, or where ever I want to have it than at the brewery or bar.

I was going to say no - although I ALWAYS look up beer bars/brewpubs and breweries if I know I am going to a place. Then I realized wife had planned a trip to New Glarus/ Madison for the hard hat tour - as a birthday present for me. We only spent a night....and it was only a couple hours or so drive but a lot of fun. New Glarus was definitely the best brewery tour I've been on.

Belgium and Germany are both on a bucket list for beer themed vacations though

I absolutely would if I could. I'd be in Belgium *so* fast. But I mean studying abroad in Berlin certainly allowed me to try a ton of beer in one shot.

I took a cross-country trip last year to try beer and collect. Flew to Seattle and drove back to Chicago. Worth it!

My wife and I went to Napa/Sonoma. The original reason wasn't beer, but I was "unusually enthusiastic" about researching things to do....

The last two Memorial days have consisted of me, my wife, her sister and my brother-in-law heading up to Greensboro for three nights, and going to the HF anniversary party.

Every time I go on vacation I make sure to plan beer related activities ahead of time. It's an important part of a relaxing vacation for me. I may not always make it to breweries, but I always manage to drink local.

I went on family vacation to San Diego this summer as well. Took wife out to Temecula wine country, and I took family to dinner at Pizza Port one night. Got to try a Pliny on tap there for first time. Love that Pizza Port place (Pliny is amazing as well of course). I really wanted to go out to Alpine but I just couldn't squeeze it into the week. Brought back on the plane a bottle of Speedway Stout and Pliney that we don't get in MD. I get Stone and Green Flash so that wasn't anything special to me. The Pliny only lasted a day upon return before I sucked it down. The Speedway Stout is still stored in my dark cool basement...planning to break the cork on it Halloween night with a beer pal of mine once the weather cools down. Its soooo hard not going down there to try it though! I don't know how people can cellar beer. Too tempting for me.

This is WHY I vacation. San Diego this weekend to pick up my BA Speedways (and hopefully some Bad Boy from Alpine if there is still some left).

Sounds like a great trip! Stone was worth it and highly suggest you go there next time in the area. That's where I tried my first Pliny, some other great SD beers, and some different versions of their line.

Took a roadtrip to get BA Huna...totally worth it and was an amazing time.
Though, it was only a 4 hour trip, we rented a van and a driver, 12 beer lovers went, drank the whole way there and back...my god it was amazing.

I'm going to San Francisco to visit a buddy the first week in october..I could have gone any time, but Russian River releases Framboise for a Cure October 1..it looks to sell out within 8 or 9 days so I should be able to score some. I run Bix out in Davenport every summer, too, mainly so I can hit up a couple of the breweries out there: Bent River, Front Street Brewery, Great River Brewery.

I'm doing just this very thing in two weeks. I fly into Los Angelos and then drive up through CA brewery hopping up to Napa for a wedding, then brewery hopping back down to LA to fly back home with lots of tasty beer.

If you guys end up going I highly, highly recommend checking out Wicked Weed as one of the first brewpubs you hit up. They have a great selection of various styles of beers that all are really good, the atmosphere is cool and the food kicks ass. As far as bottle shops go you gotta hit up Bruisin' Ales. They have some of the best bottle selections anywhere around and the owners are super cool and the staff is very knowledgeable. I always enjoy going down there.

HELLS YAZ!!!! I've been to San Diego, Central Cali, Northern Cali, Oregon, Washington, Brittish Columbia, Arizona, and even Bavaria. And I'll guarantee the bulk of the planning was centered on brewery visits.:grinning:
