I miss sky goddesses the airlines need to bring back all the old Pan Am requirements. Also be nice if they included free beer on every flight.

Funny reading the top of the thread, I only vacation for one of two things recently, golf or beer (i.e. GABF). Have a non-specific beer-centric vacation planned for the upcoming week as well.

Needed a place for a family vacation so we rented a house on Torch Lake in Michigan. I didn't tell the family it was 10 minutes from Short's in Belllaire. Or about the stop at Founder's on the way up. Or that Traverse City and all their brewpubs was about a 25 minute trip. Or the quick diversion to Odd Side Ales in Grand Haven we had to make on the way back.

Already booked again for next year.

It wasn't a far trip (just a four hour drive from NYC), but I went up to Cooperstown this year for Belgium Comes to Cooperstown event. Such an amazing event with amazing beers. Already planning on going back next year.

Now I do without the knowledge of my wife. We recently took a trip to MI and I'm thinking beer...beer...beer.

Sipping a fresh mug of beer on the terrace of Kloster Andechs, which is outside Munich, is worth the price of the airfare to Munich.

    Hell yeah!

Just got back from six weeks in the UK, Belgium and Germany. While the UK leg was ostensibly to visit family, I spent an inordinate amount of time there hitting great breweries and pubs (The Kernel was the highlight- they are creating pale ales, IPAs and BA stouts to rival anything over here and their sours are getting there)).

However, the Belgium & Germany leg was entirely included for the sake of beer. Me and another BA buddy who flew over with his family especially for that part of the vacation spent hours at Cantillon (OMFG) and Westvleteren and every other hour that we could get away with was spent in one great beer bar or bottle shop Mecca or another (Staminee De Garre was the highlight of these).

    Vacation of a lifetime...

Every time my wife debates/decides on a trip, I always start looking at close liquor stores, distro on seekabrew.com and close breweries. This has happened with me in Chicago and she wants to go to Myrtle Beach next year. In fact, after reading this I just checked my timeshare for availability in Vermont. She's wanted to go back there, and guess what, I want to go there, too!

I'd visit the Magic Hat brewery if I were you!

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it won't be next year but hopefully sometime soon.

You mean people travel out of their home state for other things besides beer? Honestly at this point its about the only reason I travel "hey kids look another bottle shop!"

If you go to Myrtle Beach you can take a day trip to Charleston, beautiful place, great beer, westbrook, etc. If not, Piggly Wiggly at Market Commons has a great, large selection with a few growler taps.

Green's Liquors has a decent selection, I don't they get much craft traffic as I found a bottle of 2012 Black Ops on the shelf there few weeks ago, while on vacation.

I'm sort of doing this this coming weekend. My wife and I are driving to Montreal, and we're doing so by way of Vermont specifically to stop along the way. In an unfortunate turn of events Hill Farmstead is closed on Saturday b/c of an event they're doing, but planning on hitting The Alchemist and stopping off at a retailer that Lawson's says on their site carries their stuff. Hope to be coming home with Heady and Lawson's in the back seat! Who knows...might need to stop off in CT for some Ghandi Bot as well. :grinning:

I'm actually considering doing this specifically to try some west coast beers from the source. I've done a day trip to Maine Beer Company (about a 2.25 hour drive from Boston), but it would certainly be nice to visit several breweries outside of the Northeast.
