I wouldn't call it a vacation but I did make a day trip to Hill Farmstead, the Alchemist and the Warren store. Did the Alchemist and the Lawson store on a 2nd trip and went to see relatives in NH.
As far as vacations go, the main purpose of the trip isn't beer but it sure is the secondary purpose. Going to S.D. and driving up the coast to S.F. in October to see my son and am mapping out as many brewery visits as my wife will tolerate. So far, I have Alpine, Societe, AleSmith, Ballast Point, Pizza Port, Mike Hess & Green Flash on the S.D. radar. I will probably have to narrow that down to 4 or 5 depending on proximity to each other. I am aware that Alpine is 30 mi. east but that one is a must. I'm working on some on the way north and perhaps a couple in the S.F. area.

I often plan trips to particular bars or breweries with friends. It is great fun. There are so many different examples of styles of beer, which are in constant flux. I cannot comment about American brews too much as I live in Sussex, England. Nationally we have over 1030 different breweries, and I annually volunteer to mann the pumps at the London Beer Festival in London, I do however try to sample as many different beers as I can. Go for it.

Whoa, here I am Looking at all of the brewers from other areas of the country and sounds like I missing some great stuff right in my own backyard.

I think you definitely hit the nail on the head with Opa Opa. I have not tried the Cambridge house. Doesnt look to far away, will have to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've never planned a vacation to "try a beer", but I've learned that areas that have good beer usually have interesting history and culture. On our trips to Maine, Belgium and Germany we drink lots of beers, but time wise we spend a lot more of our vacation doing things other than drinking. Hiking, sitting on the beach, visiting museums and things like that are what we plan our vacations around, but it's always in areas with great beer culture for the evenings.

I do this often. My wife isn't into beer. Stone was all I got on our trip to San Diego. Which for some is enough... never enough IMO.

Sadly, this thread could have stopped using words after "Ever vacation" because my answer would be a soul crushed "no." Heaven help me if I found myself in a position of vacationing AND doing it to get my hands on awesome beers I normally could not.

Sun King and Flat12 are pretty good, and I hear good things about Brugge Brasserie. Three Floyds is in Indiana as well, as I'm sure you know, but they're more Chicago than anything. If possible, you may want to try to stop in Bloomington on your way up for Upland; they're supposed to be doing some great stuff with sours.

I couldn't help but chuckle at your emphasis of it being "freaking cold" up here and looking at your location. Hopefully some great beer can help you forget that you're not in good ol' Tejas.

A few friends and I took a day off of work and did the HF/Alchemist/Lawson's trifecta. Sadly there was no Lawson's to be found. Tried to hit NEBCO on the way back but it closed by the time we were in the area. We've been thinking about doing the trip again and coming up with some ideas for a Midwest road trip. Definitely a great time.

I'm currently on my "beercation" in Colorado. My vacations are always centered around beer and food, as well as fun things to do for my son. So far I've been to Fate, Avery, New Belgium, Equinox, Grimm Brothers, Left hand, Odell, Funkwerks, Prost, Copper Kettle, Renegade, and River north in four days. Today is Crooked Stave and Black Shirt. I'm pretty tired out, lol.

Yeah- I did something like this a few times. My friends moved to Portland in '91, and I made it out there for a number of visits and sightseeing throughout the 90s...although excursions to Bend and Newport always seemed to be worked into the itinerary  . One year I even planned my stay around the Brewers Fest, so I guess that's the closest I have come to vacationing just for the beer.

Did the Vermont pilgrimage to VT this summer. Very rewarding. Then headed to Chico at the beginning of August. Also pretty awesome.
