Does anybody know when the original Black Metal stopped being brewed/ bottled? I found a few bottles at the Sugar Land HEB this morning and obviously I bought them, but I'm curious how they managed to stay on the shelf for so long. Or am I wrong and they are still around?

Seems like they had a ridiculous amount of OG Black Metal bottled whenever they made the switch to all Belgian yeast. I remember seeing a wall of OG Black Metal at Spec's Brodie location here in Austin and they still have quite a few hanging around.

I keep waiting for Specs Brodie to clearance them... but then again they still have Sailing Santa 6-packs at full price!

I guess I missed something. What is this "original black metal" you all speak of? The black metal they bottle now is different somehow????

    Original

    Farmhouse

Basically from what I know they changed the yeast to a farmhouse yeast and thus changed the recipe.

From the Jester King website heres the Farmhouse version versus the Original recepie

I've seen them for $8.99 a couple times. Not sure what they're priced at now but they've definitely been "liquor store aged"...

Seems like it was in January when they made the switch, is that right? I really can't remember as I wasn't as much a fan then. I'm just trying to get an idea of age on these bottles.

Jester King switched their entire lineup over to Belgian yeast a while back (maybe 9 months ago?). So the Black Metal you normally see is called "Farmhouse" Black Metal and contains the Belgian yeast but there are still quite a few of the Non-Farmhouse Black Metals hanging around from before they made the switch.

Thanks for the info lokieman. So is there any difference in the bottling / packaging?

Yeah, I couldn't wait. By far my favorite J/K bottling so far.

Depends on if Mikkell wants to come back and brew some more.

Sunbelt was only rebrewed because he came back to do Rodeo, right?

Why? Once recipes are set they can generally just keep making it.

I am very hopeful of this. I ended up rating Whiskey first (because it's amazing...really in every way amazing), Geek second, and Weasel third.

Honestly I'd love to see a rotation of them in place..they are fun and really exemplify foodie beer. I've planned many a great meal around JK's limited releases and hopefully that will continue
