EVIL TWIN OPENING NEW YORK BREWERY IN 2017

    BROOKS WHITTINGTONSEPTEMBER 15, 2016
    BUSINESSNEWS0
Next year will mark a huge turning point in the history of Evil Twin Brewing, which has been a so-called “gypsy brewery” since it was founded in 2010.

In an email, Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø, owner of Evil Twin, told Tenemu that the company is currently building a brewery in the Bushwisk/Ridgewood area of New York that is tentatively scheduled to open “before the summer of 2017.” The new facility will encompass not only approximately 10,000 square feet of production room, but also 4,000 square feet for a taproom and outdoor area.

“All in all the new brewery will work as an experimental outlet where we can do new beers/test batches that we might move to bigger scale,” said Jarnit-Bjergsø, in an email. “We want to establish Evil Twin as a true New York brand and felt that this was the step we needed to take to do that. We can bring colleagues in to do collaborations and “pay back” to all the breweries that have invited us in over the years.”

According to Jarnit-Bjergsø, the new brewery will have a 5,000 bbl production capacity to start and will be utilized exclusively for new beers, as the company will continue to produce beers under contract with other breweries as it has in the past.

    This is really good news.

IMO, Evil Twin brews the best stouts in the NY area, and they've brewed plenty of other tasty stuff as well. Torst is one of my favorite spots in the city, and adding another large taproom that's going to serve premium beer is great for the NY beer scene. Can't wait!

Hopefully this reduces the cost of some of their beers. Definity a big fan of ET.

Ive been anticipating this for a while. NY has been getting better everyday but I knew there was no way jeppe was going to keep torst as his only option. Competition is fierce but he knows what he can pull.

Says none of their current beers will be brewed there. They're still keeping contracts with Westbrook and Two Roads. Plus $10 for a 4 pack of 16oz IBB or EMJ may be the best deal in craft beer.

I loved the new prices on the cans and got two cans of the IBB in the first canning. But then I tasted this sour cherry flavor in both cans that I didn't experience with the bottles. Did anyone else experience this? I ended up drain pouring the two.

The new can pricing is amazing, fantastic shelf stouts at a great price point.

Looks like a lot of progress is being made. The last updates I can find from articles in March say July opening...so maybe September/October?

Their Instagram story has labels for a double ipa(Ridgewood Ressurection), triple ipa(By the End of the Day!), and a dry hopped sour(Your Mom Goes To College).

Liking these new labels, and more importantly these names aren't 90 words long.

I grabbed cans and went to nowadays last night. The brewery space is promising, but still very hard to judge. No surprise to hear the Twin Peaks theme playing outside.

I like the space at nowadays, but also hard to judge how things were going given it was the first night of the pop up. It took a long time to get a drink both times I went up, but I assume things will move quicker in the future.

The beers are all really good. By the end of the day has a nice gummy bear/white grape juice note. With so much great beer in nyc right now it’s probably tough to be blown away by anything, but everything I tried(everything except the pilsner and pale ale) at least met my expectations.
