Yin is an Imperial Stout, Yang is an Imperial IPA. Just picked these up a couple weeks ago and am excited to try them. The big question I have is if I should enjoy them in separate or the same settings. Both have 10% ABV. Pretty much opposite ends of spectrum (hence Yin and Yang) and strong flavors. Help me out... thoughts?
The brewer lists them as half of a black and tan. So you could give it a go as the brewer suggests. If that's not your thing, just enjoy them separately as they are both good beers. There is no wrong answer here.
You should give them both a test on their own but don't be afraid to mix. The first time I tried both was a layered pour at the beer bar
When I opened my bottles I poured a few ounces in seperate snifters and then the rest of each as a black and tan in a pint glass. Then I could try each one on their own and together as a black and tan. To be honest I preferred them on their own.
I really prefered them on their own also, but did try them together. Unfortunately my pour didn't go well. I thought the IPA was really well done, they did a good job on it.
Evil Twin has kegged and bottled them together as a black and tan themselves. Had their version, as well as the individuals, on draft and I agree that they are better separated.
I've had both individually as well as the brewer's own blend, but I've never done the blend meself. I too thought they were better separate, and the stout was better than the IPA.
Are you guys willy nilly pouring in there or using a spoon? Gotta use a spoon for a black and tan or you get... well... an entire glass that's halfway between whatever color is between black and tan
