I've had vintage and it oxidizes and tastes terrible in my opinion. I wouldn't cellar for more than a year or two.

Agreed. That beer falls apart after a year-year and a half. Had a 1988 two years ago, should have ordered stirfry for it.

The brewery's page for "Our Special Ale" or what even they now call "Anchor Christmas Ale" used to say:
(a Google for the phrase will turn up numerous other sites' quoting of it, including numerous Anchor wholesale and retail accounts).

There was once an article online - originally from a print source, IIRC - about a tasting of vintages of OSA which convinced Fritz Maytag (previously an unbeliever) that the beer could benefit from cellaring. But I haven't been able to find it the last few years.

Just had a 2013 it was solid. I would agree with the advice to keep it a year or two at max.

this beer ages fantastically. i have had it at 10 years old, it was great. i opened an 09 a few months back and it was bright and lively. i have been aging and drinking these for like 7 years now, always a favorite of mine.

Personally I think this beer is great with some age. Currently cellering six-packs from 2010-present (in a temperature controlled fridge). Just had a half magnum of '11 and '12 with the wife and they were amazing. I'd say the only way you will know if you like them down the road is to try it yourself. The beer isn't expensive and is easily to get.

    Edit*
However storing the beer in a cooled environment slows down the aging process so the beer won't have the changes it would get say not in a fridge.

This is the closest I could find matching that description. http://www.ibabuzz.com/bottomsup/2006/12/08/anchor-vintage-christmas-ale-tasting-2006/
