So I got my hands on some experimental brewers barley from Oregon State University from my wife's family friend. I am looking to get more information about it but not sure what i can find. I would like to brew something with it but not sure what. I would love to do one gallon batches to see how it goes. Any suggestions and/or recipes?

It's been malted? It's a base malt? How about a smash beer to reveal the most about malt quality? I'd try an apa with some familiar hop like centennial.

I'd recommend you ask your wife's family friend about it. I would guess that there are hundreds or thousands of experimental barley varieties being grown at any one time at any given agricultural school.

Send it to me OP. I'll malt it and brew a smash :stuck_out_tongue:

If the 'experimental' part of this grain is engineering-related so as to remove gluten, etc. then any style that you choose should work as long as you don't choose a style that requires roasted grain. Then you'll have to do that part too (in addition to malting it) before brewing. If it's gluten-reduced or gluten-free and you get a great-tasting, gluten-free beer out of your brewing effort, then you may have a honey hole on your hands.
