My gut feeling would be to tell them they wasted their 18 because they would have to pay me to take that crap home.

Because I've had more discretionary income since my meth dealer got arrested.

Because with craft beer its about the means, not the end. (although the end is a great bonus! (drunk))

"So what's your answer to others who might say something like, "You spend what on a 4pk of beer!? I got a case of PBR for $18 and you spend $12 on 4 bottles!?". I usually just tell them that I enjoy the taste so much better that's it's worth the price to me. What are some of your classic comebacks? Cheers...and I'm off to drink my $3 bottle of Founders Imperial Stout...thank you very much....HA, HA"

I would say cause PBR tastes like (enter) expletive and I have no desire to drink that.

edit: no one I know has ever asked me such a question or questioned me regarding how much money I spend on beer. Trying new beers and drinking ones I like is a hobby.

I avoid the discussion at all cost. Spent $37 on 7 beers last week during one stop and while that may seem reasonable to us, there is no way $16 case of Bud Light guy is going to listen. Be like a Flyers fan trying to recruit me to their side. Ain't gonna happen, no way, no how.

I compare it to burgers. Would you rather have a McDonalds burger for $.99 or a finely crafted craft burger for $7, most people will pick the better burger.......

I absolutely hate any and all BMC with such a passion that it drives me to spend ridiculous amounts of cash on a better beer.

I could also argue that my distaste for any fizzy lager lead me to ales, which happens to be a lot prices than 99% of lagers.

"Lagerbrains" are usually the only kind of people that ask about craft hobbies....Lagerheads as in an alcoholic, a drunkard, a welfare warrior. Everybody knows one. Little to no food in the fridge, but they got beer....kind of people. My neighbors

I save the best for last. This argument works 100% of the time ------> I enjoy pissing excellence

I have some expensive bottles of wine and the overall questions from my friends who like $3-10 wine are the same. Same for coffee at this point too. Basically, I have friends who will be like, "we can't all have refined palates like you." And I'm like, STFU Sharon. No one likes you. <--- really, anyone's name would fit into that response. All in good fun, of course.

As much as I agree with the sentiment I believe sales figures would actually prove the opposite. Most people would want the better burger and then buy the other.

    Good point about the coffee.

Beer costs what it costs. Wine costs what it costs. Coffee costs what it costs. In all three, you generally (though not always) get what you pay for.

Unlike gambling, I get something delicious for my money. Unlike anything collectable, it goes away (but yes some is lingering to age for special occasions).

Exactly this. The only person who might be justified in asking me why I spend so much money on beer is my wife. And if she did, which thankfully she hasn't, all I'd have to do is point to a closet full of shoes and bags, and the conversation would be over. (Or so I like to think)
