Looking for a little advise shipping fruited sours such as JREAMS, Jooses, and Tastees. I recently received some JREAMS which arrived 2+ days after being shipped. They were packed in a cooler in a box with ice packs. They were really packed well and were likely chilled for most of the way. What are your thoughts on shipping similar super saturated sours someplace which requires 4+ days travel. I imagine ice packs would keep the beer chilled for 2+ days, but the second half of the trip would be at higher temperatures. Would the beer be at risk of refermenting and exploding? Thanks for the advise
To answer you question, there's definitely a chance of those type of cans exploding in transit. It depends on the amount of fruit in the beer and the temperatures during transit. I typically avoid shipping these types of beers in the summer but slipped a few into a couple of boxes for a trustee with no issues, if I'm worried about temperatures I'll throw a few ice packs in the shipper as extra protection but my boxes arrived within 2 days.
I've nearly lost a couple. They arrived with domed lids. If you want to take a chance, just put in extra precautions if it should break. Something to absorb the liquid and multiple bags.
I recently trade some Joose that I acquired while on a trip for work. I shipped all packages within 3 days of purchase, but 2 were the next day. From the time I picked them up they were cold. They went straight into an ice cooler, then to he fridge. Stayed in the fridge until I packed them. Packed in USPS 2 day shipping boxes near end of day, and dropped off before close where they left same day. They arrived within 48 hours of drop off, and everyone said they were perfect. I double ziplock bagged, then trash bagged the entire packGe as an extra precaution.
I had a Jream blow up on me as I was unpacking the box at my house. So personally not a big fan of sending/receiving these in the super hot temps. That being said, plenty of VA guys send Joose's which are probably more volatile, by sending them with frozen ice packs/bottles/capri suns in the box.
