Some bottles just have a defect in them and the glass wall has some spots that are thinner which will if knocked right, break. Sounds like a combo of defect and in bottle carbonation working in cahoots with being knocked around a bit. This is more than likely what created the mess in your closet. Unless they get knocked just right, it's never really a worry and unless you have a really trained eye to notice these kinds of imperfections on a brown bottle in a sea of a few pallets worth of them. It's damn hard to tell too.

From your vantage point you can't (and don't) know that this was a glass defect rather than a bottle with excessive pressure. But thanks for the scientific analysis.
But whether its a bottle or brewery defect is not the concern to me. My issue is the brewer's lack of concern for a serious defect that could have injured someone and might injure other customers. From experience I can tell you that where there is one defect there are others. At the very least, the brewery might want to check out this defect and placate the customer.
Of course a broken bottle with no injury is not grounds for a law suit. But a letter from a lawyer might elicit some self serving concern.

Relax and have a beer man. I don't know if you know this but Stone is a pretty big brewery with a shit ton of stuff going on. I don't think they have a dedicated 24/7 beer crisis department standing by to assist people like the OP. Emails fall through the cracks so I'd say call them up, I know it sounds crazy to pick up a phone and talk to someone in our digital age though.... If a couple emails and calls don't get through blast off on their Facebook page.

I'll likely send them another email tonight. See if that gets me anywhere. Also working on contacting my local sales rep. See if I can work through her to get some info.

Maybe they should hire someone to manage their beer crises. When a real lawyer contacts them about a real personal injury they might be able respond.
At the end of the day its just plain stupidity for Stone or any company not to respond to a customer's real or imagined serious quality problem. Most of the time an aggrieved customer just wants to be acknowledged and know that someone on the other end is listeninig and cares and actually gives a shit. When this doesn't happen, molehills can become mountains.
And finally...If Stone's explosions become chronic and not just that one in a billion fluke, here's a slogan for them: "At Stone we keep an eye out for quality."

He's sent a total of one email to Stone one week ago. I mean why not pick up the phone or post on their FB page before flipping out?

    To the OP.

Thanks for tracking down the number for me.

Not trying to start a witch hunt, just wanted to know if there were similar stories or if this was an isolated incident.

I would say that you are overqualified for the position of a stone sales rep.

A letter from a lawyer would provide motivation if there was an injury. Without damages, there really isn't much fear to build up in a defendant.

I had a local breweries bottle of coffee stout explode overnight once. It was a filtered, force carb'ed beer. Bottle defects are crazy. It went all over the kitchen, shot beer 7-9 feet or so onto the fridge, hit the ceiling, walls, floor.

I've watched a bottle of HotD explode right in front of me at room temperature. Defective glass. HotD didn't give a shit. A normal bottle of beer should never explode. Period.
