    Hey folks,
Looking for a little constructive criticism on my EPA recipe.
Also thinking of doing the same brew again, but substituting HBC 342 for the Cascade.

    Extract brew:

    Specialty grains:
    1lb Belgian Cara 8

    Fermentables:
3 lbs Golden malt, 60 mins
3 lbs Golden malt, 15 mins

    Hops:
    2 oz Cascade, 60 mins
    1 oz Cascade, 20 mins
    .5 oz Cascade, 10 min
    1 oz Cascade, 5 mins
    1 oz Cascade, 0 mins

    Yeast:
    WLP001

    Thanks.

    Cheers,
    Mike

What's the Alpha Acid content of your Cascade? Assuming 6.9% (the last cascade pellets I used), you're over 80 computed Tinseth IBUs in a 5 gallon batch. Is that the kind of bitterness you're going for? If not, I'd recommend you use a program/calculator to dial in your recipe.

    Thanks,
Lowered the 60 minute addition, and it brought it down to 53 IBU's

Like VikeMan said too high on your bittering. With cascades you get a lot of flavor. 1oz at 15 min and 1oz at 5 min is my program for pale ale. There is nothing wrong with what you propose for finishing. Take care.
