I start every trade expecting to send 5 extras. Then I start removing them based on how annoying the person is during negotiation.

You're such a pessimist  I start every trade expecting to send 3 extras then I start adding them based on how awesome the person is

Pretty sure I can count on one hand how man of my 200+ trades I have rec'd no extras in; just had one for the first time in a long while. But it happens - extras is extras & by definition you can't expect them. No foul, no harm.

Although I agree with Hanzo, sometimes the unknown extras are more fun that the trade itself.

That sounds great and was something that I attempted to do. Once I hit ~30 trades, I realized it was unrealistic to expect that I would continue to spend the time to keep track of such a thing. If there is someone out there with +100 trades who has kept track of this, cheers to that guy.

I just keep mental notes at this point. I could rattle off the beers in nearly all of my trades, including whether the other guy blew me away in extras or fell short.

I look at extras as a way to keep the amount of collected beers in check and share it with those that dont have access to it. If you send extras, great! If you don't, oh well. I would never consider holding it against someone if they didn't include any. I will most certainly thank them and show I appreciate the gesture if included though.

Extras are extras. Just that freebies. If the guy doesnt send one. No big deal. Like Knivestyles said. Keeping tabs is doing it wrong.

    Cheers!

Yep, that certainly seems to be the best way. Some people will describe what they'll throw in as extras, which is fine but for me and some other BA's, I know extras are the real fun part of a trade sometimes. Its a surprise!

I keep tabs sort of loosely to make sure that if someone sends me a bunch of great extras, the next time we do a trade, I can try to repay the kindness. I generally try to send 3-4 extras per box. I don't think that's over the top either way. Perhaps 2-3 if I am sending bombers as extra, just to help keep the shipping down.

I was so blown away by some of the extras I got from mklever42 that I ended up putting a couple of seasonals that seekabrew said were not available in his area and sending them on after the fact. I've completed a few trades with him now, and it's been fantastic. He told me not to feel burdened to send extra extras after I had sent the second box. Which was cool, because it's no pressure, but I didn't feel like I had to, just wanted to.

Good traders are good traders, and that's why I keep list of things, not down to the bottle, just "great extras, great packaging" etc

Finding cool extras to throw in is my favorite part of putting together a shipment.
