Sounds like the tyranny of choice to me. Personally, I always find the time to give everything a once over before making any beertactical decision.

I have a problem. Everything I buy has to be new (or at least occasional enough that its new again). So if I'm having trouble I'll typically fall back on a favorite style or a favorite brewery. Like the other day. Couldn't decide. Ended up with Clown Shoes Vampire Slayer imperial American stout and Blaecorn Unidragon Russian imperial stout.

    Oh and a Rochefort 8.

If there is something I have not tried and it sounds or looks interesting, I'll definitely get it. Cll me a ticker but I want to try as many as I can so I can find my favorites

It depends on the prices, first of all. Usually I go for something new that either I've been wanting to try, or a beer I havent had that is a style that I enjoy. If the cost is high i'll ask for a sample first to make sure I will drink the whole beer if I order one.

"Ever find yourself standing before a stocked shelf/wall of taps, overwhelmed by the sheer variety of old, new, or untried offerings, and then come to the point that you just say: "Fuck it, I'll have a ________"?"

Overwhelmed by a tap selection? Never. Though it's interesting how often bartenders who don't know me assume that to be the case.

when i was first getting into craft i had more of a ticker's mentality, just wanted to try everything. and while i still love to try new stuff, these days i'm much more likely to fall back on beers i know will be fantastic.

Locally we've seen an influx of Dry Dock taps. I can pretty safely order "whatever you have from Dry Dock" at a good chunk of the places I frequent.

On a national scale - I order Boston Lager pretty often, too.

I collected beer bottles so I usually with go with new if I can't decide in the store but I stay with mostly tried and trued beers when getting something from the tap.

If they have something that is really interesting and within my price range I'll go for that. If it either not in my price range or not interesting I go for Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or Founders Centennial/Red's Rye/Dirty Bastard Anything.

When it's, ahem, "stout season" I will always reach for Breakfast Stout if nothing catches my eye. Two Hearted is one I will usually reach for as well.

every time i open the "his" fridge in the garage. OTOH, the "her" fridge in the kitchen inspires no such staring or dilemmas...

On those rare occasions that I'm overwhelmed by a tap list, my usual choice is one of: whatever the bartender recommends, something in a style I prefer (generally stout, porter, tripel, IPA) or from a brewer I like.

I look for any kind of stout or porter, and go from there.
