Word is Quadnundrum is "too yeasty" for Karbach's liking. More time in the barrel. My q - does more time in the barrel tone down the yeastiness?

Bad news dudes...from what I heard Quadnundrum is dead. Didn't pass quality control standards and won't be released.

Good news in my book. 1) Knowing the way I handle these FUN Series, I woulda purchased a few anyway. 2) Karbach cares about their customers

Agree, it sounds bad (and sucks for them), but it me happy to hear this is how they are dealing with a bad batch vs selling it anyways

That's unfortunate, I was looking forward to this one.

I have to give major props to Karbach if this is true.

One of my biggest complaints about them in the past was their inability to dump bad beer, and to instead sell it by pretending it was still good (for example, WBA Krunkin Pumpkin) or pretending the badness was intentional (for example, WBA "Sour" Krunkin Pumpkin a week later).

Improvement on this front not only shows maturity, but a willingness to do the right thing. I've lauded St. Arnold and Jester King for years for dumping bad beer, and if Karbach has joined that club, I have to be equal and laud them as well.

So, I'm glad to hear that this is the case. Sad for the beer, but thrilled that Karbach has matured in this area.

Sad to hear that...no matter, though. I brewed my own rum BA quad.

    Hope they try it again.

I wonder if the beer was bad or just wasn't up to par with their standards? If it was the latter, then they should've just given it out at the brewery.

that really sucks... but like others glad to hear they took the right path.

The idea of a rum BA quad just sounds soooo delicious to me... i hope they try it again...

There was some other brewery, a rather large one, that had a beer that didn't pass QC after aging in rum barrels. The name escapes me now, but my point is I wonder if rum barrels are just tricky to use for barrel aging?

I just grabbed a bottle of 012, but it was Trigave, Belgian triple aged in tequila barrels. I didn't even know this was out, not much chatter about this beer. Total Wine in SA on 410 for about $12 I think.

I thought the Trigave was excellent (and I completely hate BBH and don't know what you are all smoking thinking it's more than mediocre or on par with Black Crack). There aren't a lot of tequila/mezcal aged beers, but this is easily the best I've had. Komorebi was good, but was a bit overwhelming with the mezcal. I still liked it quite a bit, but I thought Trigave worked a lot better. Nice tripel with plenty of floral, sweet tequila notes without overwhelming it.

Trigave was nice but lacked tequila flavor. Sounds terrible saying it, but I was expecting more tequila.

There's a ton sitting in Austin in various places too. If it were called "Bourbon County Trigave", it would be long gone.

Did you ever try Freetail Komorebi? It was a mezcal aged tripel and it was a LOT boozier than Trigave, at least on tap. I liked both a lot, but definitely favored the Trigave. Not sure that any of it made it outside of SA or Austin.

Nope, haven't had many free tail beers.
