I handle the fall season by dipping in to my cellared stout reserves from winter. Not really a fall beer fan per se other than say a harvest ale.

Late fall/Early Winter when the big stouts starting coming is when my budget takes the hardest hit. Not huge on Pumpkin beers but I will enjoy a few this fall. Add in Christmas presents and it's ramen noodles for dinner :sunglasses:

Don't try to do it all in one year, that would be impossible even for the wealthiest BA. It is a year by year discovery. I Discovered Oktoberfest beers about 5 years ago and I still manage to find a new favorite very year. Splitting cases with friends is a good way to maximize your tastings while staying within your budget.

When your wife kicks you out you can stay with me. Just bring the beer. I feel your dilemma. I fill the fridge with a crapload of Oktoberfests and pumkins and then feel like I have to start chugging them as stout season rolls in. Brewing more of the marzens year round would eliminate some of the fall overload. Most places dont like to break up the seasonal stuff into singles till they are old either, understandably. Who would have guessed we would bitch about having too many good beers??

Trade or make the drive to a great bar or pub with an amazing draft sampler setup a few times over the next few months. this year I plan to give pumpkin beers other than the heavy hitters a fair tasting

It's not even about wealth; it's about stomach and liver capacity. The 2 beers you drink are way better than the 6 you put in your "cellar". Drink spectacular beer; accept no substitute!

    single bottles.

Or better yet, be a veteran and know most of them and just buy what you like the best, plus the new offerings.

First off, if you are serious about this hobby, you are going to have to consider getting a new wife if she isn't ok with a $500 beer run. (Kidding)
This isn't a dilemma for me. I can't stand Pumpkin beers and Octoberfest biers are ok. So fall isn't a wallet killer. well until November when Wake n Bake and Founders breakfast stout hit the store the same week .....

I'm sorry, but Fall is the one season that you have to say "sorry honey, they had......in stock and I had to get it." Fall is the most exciting time for beer IMO. My wife knows this, and although she doesn't approve of my spending, she knows there are a lot of releases this time of year that I just have to have. If your a newbie into the craft beer world, your wife will soon learn this too.

Pick one or two specific styles you like then use this site for release dates/locations. Personally, the next release I'm looking forward to, is Backwoods Bastard which (according to last year) should be mid-September.
Correction: Just looked it up. It will be released in November this year.

There a fall beer overload, when did that start?:grinning: lol.
Be happy there used to be a no "GOOD" beer season every year. well there was old imports in most places.
So be happy you have choices. Unless the beer is a one of a kind, it will be back next year. So you miss a few, no big deal, its just beer. Well for some tickers there is this contest they are in, I guess?:grimacing::rolling_eyes:

Sounds like you need to find a better bottle shop. I live in PA and my local bottle shop sells singles of pretty much everything. I picked up a six pack yesterday with 6 different pumpkin beers and there still tons at the shop I haven't tried yet.
