Fall Beer Sightings (2019)

There's a 4 digit lot number on the back label. My understanding is it is the year & day of the year. In this case the first number was an 8, I don't remember the other numbers.

 

In the last couple days, I've noticed that we have a nice amount of Okto/pumpkin beers already.

 

I’m not ready for the fall beers, but let me know if you see the Pumkings yet.

 

My understanding is that this would be May 8, 2018 brew date

 

As always Ayinger and HP are the first to show up. It takes nerve to charge $12 for a 4 pk of Ayinger with so much competition for the style. $2 more for two less beers, no thanks.

 

The Paulaner with an April, 2019 brew date is here now as is the Jack's Abbey Oktoberfest. Kinda pissed that the Von Trapp has been out for over three weeks and it still isn't stocked.

 

Saw some Naragansett Fest... 6x16oz... cheap price, too, 10ish bucks (I've never partaken, and it is 'Gansett so it may be mehhhh)

 

Old beer! Pass.

 

For that price, you might as well get a 12 pack of Genesee Oktoberfest.

I'm curious if this year's bottles start with a "9".

I'm only mentioning this because historically Ayinger hasn't dated their bottles, so maybe that code only applied to last year's?

My Wegmans is supposed to have it on the shelf by this weekend so I'll have to check.

 

I saw a nice display of a half dozen or more fall beers over the weekend, including domestic and imported stuff. I picked up Solemn Oath's Oktoberface, Two Brothers' Atom Smasher Oaked Oktoberfest, and Spaten's Oktoberfest ur-Marzen. Three different, really good expressions of the same idea. Yum!

 

Where in Illinois have you seen Spaten Okto? No sign of it yet up here in the Northeast corner.

 

I bought it at Antioch Fine Wine & Liquors in Antioch, IL.

 

Damn -- and I was just there 2 weeks ago!

Saw this year's SN Okto (w/ Bitburger) when I went beer shopping this past weekend. But I'm not ready for Fall beers yet, so I got a 12 pack of Summerfest instead.

 

I wanted to do the same last week, but all of the Summerfest is gone around here (probably thanks mostly to me. ).

 

The date on it is 05.2020, so I'd say it's reasonably fresh.
