Any Okto sightings? I heard SA is already on shelves.

I agree. I'd rather they just hit shelves, I can buy what I want and make sure it stays refrigerated until the official start of Oktoberfest(my personal rule for drinking these beers).

Luckily I have local craft breweries that produce high quality Oktoberfest beers and they do not bottle/can their products until next month (August and later). Those will be the beers I buy this year.

I got 'burned' (figuratively and literally) by a number of German brewed versions last year.

    Cheers!

I love those Double Coconut Porters in the fall.

    Or just "New England Bock".

Then it TECHNICALLY doesn't have to be hazy. They can just say the Sierra Nevada team was inspired by a trip the Northeast.

How did you literally get burned by a beer? Were you boiling it?

I personally did not get a skin burn but my wallet got 'burned' (note the single quotes here and above) by purchasing German brewed Festbiers that were sub-optimal. Too old plus abused my high temperature storage conditions ('burned'), I reckon.

Feel free to use your beer money the way you want (which I am confident you will).

    Cheers!

Kellerweis continues to drop double digits ever year from inception. We have found that it sell okay in certain areas and regions. It so happens to be our top three selling beers in our pub in Mills River, not so much in CA. From feedback from our staff includes the theory that it sells so well due to the glassware of which it is served.

The name... Glissade. Sounds like a brand of air-freshener.

Given this situation is there is reason why Kellerweis as a packaged beer has not gone the way of Nooner Pilsner (and other recent examples) and been discontinued?

    Cheers!

I've scanned the comments on traditional craft beers that have gone away. It seems to be true that all larger craft brewers are vulnerable. As has been observed, consumers are looking for the next new thing. I like to have some "old reliable" beers that I can enjoy regularly -- until they disappear too. Even in the '70s and '80s my regular favorite were changed or discontinued, and I had to search for a new regular brew. More recently, I used to enjoy Blue Point Pale Ale and ESB. First they became hard to find. Now, with AB in charge, they are gone and I'm drinking Montauk Driftwood (at least until that fades away). I wouldn't want to be an owner of a large craft brewer in these days of the fickle consumer.

These don't appear to be Fall releases.

A local place by me posted Hofbrau Oktoberfest... Wondering myself if it is new stock, or they dusted off the old inventory... Anybody else confirm it actually has hit in the US?

Kellerweis is more of a stand alone style where we don't have a competing beer in our portfolio. Nooner was seeing the same declines but when we introduced Sierraveza, it was time to cut our losses. Granted they are stylistically different but similar enough to make the call. In addition, with Southern Gothic eating up Nooner sales in the South East made it even easier.

Not a fan of selling last year's Oktoberfests. A couple years ago I snagged an old bottle of Avery's The Kaiser which I'd previously enjoyed fresh a lot. It wasn't drain pour bad but decidedly inferior. Lesson learned.

I've been seeing sixers of cans of Stone Woot Stout. I think it's a fall beer. I've never had it before.

If an 8% "Imperial Oktoberfest" doesn't hold up over time then a normal one doesn't stand a chance.

Also, isn't an Imperial Oktoberfest just a Dopplebock?

Just going from memory because I didn't write a review, it still had a marzen type taste so I think they used the same type of malts that give a distinct caramel taste. I remember it as a Great Lakes Oktoberfest with more heft.
