Not exactly styles I'd choose to replace my Fest cravings, but whatever floats your boat.

FWIW -- the Lakemoor Woodman's was a bust. Only import was H-P and rest were Amis I'd already had or am not fond of.

Let us know what you spy behind the Cheddar Curtain.

First, note to self: Woodman's in Kenosha has cheaper beer and better selection. And $2.90 gas.

I picked some New Glarus: Staghorn/Two Women/Kid Kolsch/Peach '21. I'll have to go back once Pear and Strawberry Rhubarb show up. Wanted to grab a 6-pack of Sam Adams okto, but all I could find was 12-packs. They did not have a full slate of German beers, the only difference with local store was the presence of Weihenstephan - I did not check the date but I assume it's fresh.

Stopped by Costco on the way back. Last year at this time I have already bought my okto cases. Right now they have none. However there are quite a few craft samplers: Goose Island, Elysian, Lagunitas, New Belgium, Two Brothers, Odell, and I kid you not, almost every beer in those is IPA.

I've always wondered, for all the people that complain about Oktoberfests being released too early because it's too hot, would they never drink Oktoberfests if they lived in warmer states such as Texas?

@Grounder @FBarber -- be on the lookout for Roaring Table's Festbier. They haven't tapped it at the brewery yet (need an open line), but they're selling 4-pack, 16 ounce cans.

I promised myself to hold off until tomorrow, but I gave in and poured a can.

A new favorite Fest -- and another local (loved Crystal Lake Brewing's Fest last year).

Doughy, bready malts with a nice touch of herbal noble hops. They're killing some good German (and Czech) lagers.

I always wonder "Hey, ain'tcha got no AC in that house? The SO doesn't let you drink inside or what?"

This also works for folks who won't drink "summer" style (whatever they are) in the winter.
"No central heating, huh? Tough luck...but that imperial stout's only going to keep you so warm."

Hmm. I remember it being a big confusion years ago -- so many customers expecting oak-aged beer. I have to wonder how this will change it -- it was a pretty good Festbier when I last tried it, but not what I'd think conducive to outside "flavoring."

Oh yeah, and nice Nonic Imperial Pint for an Oktoberfest?

I mentioned it in the news & releases forum but I did come across Sierra Nevada's marzen in New York.

The silver lining is that it's not really a can't miss experience.

Iron Goat's Goatoberfest went on tap a couple weeks ago. Seemed a little early to me, but there are worse issues confronting the world than an Oktoberfest that's brewed a dozen minutes walk from me becoming available in late July.

Looks like in Illinois you’re finally experiencing what I have in my area for a couple years now. More and more breweries doing German and Czech styles, and actually doing them well and to style.

They don’t distribute to MA anymore, but damnit I kinda want that stein.

In talking with the bar-tender (who is also the distributor/delivery guy for RT), he was saying that the brewery had jumped on the whole IPA and Hazy band wagon early on, but the owner/brewer finally decided to brew the beers he liked -- thus the European lagers.

I think there are a lot of us old explorers out there who always enjoyed good beer in Eastern Europe and miss it.
