I picked up some Hofbrau Okto so I now have the big Germany 4 in the fridge. Festbeirs tend to be my favorites and Paulaner overall gets the nod by me this year, but Spaten is tasting really good as well. Prost.

    Germany, or Munich?

And don't forget you can double-up on Paulaner with both Fest & Märzen.

What's the best-by on your Spaten?

Munich, more accurately. I have yet to get the Ayinger but I got the other biggies; Paulaner, Spaten, HP & Hofbrau.

I'll admit to not even checking the date on the Spaten. It clearly shows 07.2023 (with some other number below) so I'm guessing it's stock from last year which is funny as I seem to remember it being hard to find last year.

Ugh. Damn distro passing off leftovers.

As long as it's still tasting good, but I'd be the first to point it out to the retailer.

Pretty sure that just to the left of the date, in tiny letters, it says *best by.*

This gives me a little bit of hope that you found the collab, from the release thread:

...so maybe it is going out to more states than they initially thought, I'll keep an eye out next time I go shopping.

I had forgotten about that release thread and the initial sales area, until this evening. Another place today had Jack's Abbey and I think I saw the collab beer. Wasn't really paying close attention so I could be wrong.

At any rate I'm sitting on these until the tasting thread later this month.

I gave up on it. I went to Springfield last week and was a day early (it showed online at the same store the next day) but I thoroughly enjoyed JA’s Fest (previously had only had coppper legend) which kinda sated the fomo.

Then went into NY today and grabbed some stuff and didn’t see it. So I could go to Springfield for a sure thing next week but is it likely to be better than what I’ve had this season? Probably not.

Every year I’m realizing that for my palate and my region I may as well just keep buying a mix of Paulaner and Von Trapp märzen and I ought to be okay…ish! Oh wait, and Fox farm Tines which should be out this week! (And counterweight and NEBCO and all the random local stuff).

What I really wanna know is where are the bitburger products??

This year's Oktoberfest line up was launched here in Sweden September first. These are the brands sold at my local monopoly store. The beer in the glass is the Paulaner. The Löwenbräu and Hofbräu have already been consumed and my impression of them holds from previous years. Löwenbräu is more brightly hoppy yet has a substantial pale malt body, whereas the Hofbräu has a more herbal hoppiness and more of a bready Munich maltiness to it, and a slightly darker color. The Paulaner has a pale maltiness too it akin to Löwenbräu, though not as bright of a hop note. The bitterness of each beer seems pretty similar, it is balanced yet notable, and makes each sip taste bittersweet, the way I expect it to be.

I really like the new label design for the Löwenbräu, I think it's quite appealing with the emphasis on the lion and the gold, white and blue color scheme. It is quite eye catching I think. The Löwenbräu was bottled on 26th of June 2023, the Hofbräu has a best before date of July 11th 2023 and the Paulaner has a best before date of 06/23.

Okay, weekly shopping at Aldi today and saw they have a house brand Festbier -- anyone tried it?

    Color me skeptical.

Pretty much how I feel, but with different beers weihenstephan is the only fest I need every year I have realized that over the past few.

And on marzen front it’s Cape May oktoberfest, it is just so drinkable and clean and has this perfect little kiss of hops. Highly recommend if you see it or have access.

I really wish NJ would finally let grocers sell beer, I know it’ll never happen, sadly. Whats the Pilsner people get at Aldi for super cheap? Wursgrunner? Any good?

Does the fest can say who brews it for them?

I had the exact same thought about beer retail in Pennsylvania in the recent past but the laws were changed/liberalized here so perhaps one should never say never. A significant portion of my beer purchases are now from my local supermarkets (Wegmans, Giant).

    Cheers!

I didn't check, but based on their usual house brands, it's a contract brewer just outside Milwaukee... I'll see if I can dig up more info.*
Octopi Brewing* (again, an assumption based on previous labels).

*Sorry, looks like it's just outside Madison.

Narwal is listed as in stock at the closest total wine. Sold pretty quick last year.

    Enjoy

Found some local Art History Artoberfest "Festbier" (rather dark for a Festbier). Thought I'd tried this in the past, but I have no review.

Somewhat underattenuated, even at 5.8. Some nice doughy and caramel-to-melanoidin character, but it also has a hop bitterness that lingers and becomes a little palate fatiguing to me. Only one can at this point, I'll post a full review after a few samples.
