This is the one you referred to above from Aldi. It is from "Rock Wall Brewing Company, Rochester, NY, " part of Genesee Brewing. It appears to be a made-up brewery. I haven't tried the beer, but it was an impulse buy from Aldi's. I'm sure it is not as good as Wernesgruner.

I'm not sure that's the same one I saw. I think the labels I saw were lighter blue, but I wasn't taking notes. Next time.

Some more beers from this year's German Oktoberfest/festbier lineup here in Sweden. The Irlbacher and Weihenstephaner have been sold here in the past, the Kuchlbauer and Ettl/Teisnacher are new for this year. The Irlbacher and Weihenstephaner are the beers for tonight and the Irlbacher (5.6% abv) is richly malty, lightly sweet, with a light but bright hop aroma and flavor and has a good balancing bitterness. The Weihenstephaner is a bit drier tasting but it is still rich tasting. The hops are a bit more herbal, not as bright. The bitterness is similar to the Irlbacher. I slightly prefer the Irlbacher, it tastes a bit richer and fresher.

The best before date of the Irlbacher is July 12th 2024 and for the Weihenstephaner June 15th 2024.

Couldn't resist the temptation of this beer any longer despite the heat wave. Delicious as always.

I’m pretty sure you’re the reason I tried this one last year or one before. It is such a tasty beer, that yeast contributes such a subtle bit of spice to it that makes it so unique for me. Thank you for your pst recommendation :beers:

I discussed the Fat Head's Festbier earlier today in the NBW thread:

Another Festbier – a Festivus for the rest of us!

Within the last month I discussed two Pale Oktoberfest/Festbier beers. I have another one for today: Fat Heads Oktoberfest – Bavarian Style Festbier.

"MALT: pale 2-row, light munich, dark munich

    YEAST: House Lager

    BEGINNING GRAVITY: 13.0 Plato

    ENDING GRAVITY: 2.6 Plato

    COLOR: Deep Gold

    5% ABV

    26 IBU”

    https://fatheads.com/g-suffa.html

Some of the technical details in the above appear inconsistent to me. The ABV is listed as being 5% but using a calculator the difference in gravity between 13 degrees Plato and 2.6 degrees Plato yields an ABV of 5.6% which is consistent with the Oktoberfest/Festbier beer style.

What the heck, let’s see how this beer tastes.

Served in my Sly Fox Bock Fest Willi Becher glass:

    Appearance:

Golden colored with a BIG white head.

    Aroma:

A bready aroma with a subtle hint of sweetness.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with a pleasing bready flavor and just a tiny hint of sweetness. There is a low/moderate bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied with a medium carbonation level. There is a dry finish.

    Overall:

I enjoyed drinking this beer, it is very good! This beer had a pleasing & balanced flavor profile with an aspect of great drinkability.

    Cheers!

I’m really looking forward to trying the haunted house. The hofbrauhaus freising I had last year was super sweet but the year before that I thought it was excellent. So hopefully this years batch is spot on.

I'm glad you like it. Allagash makes some excellent beers that are not well-known. My second-year favorite is Seconds to Summer Lager, which is almost a German Pilsner and is excellent.

Well, it certainly doesn't feel like fall yet in Arizona but I did pickup some Firestone Walker Octoberfest, which is an oak barrel aged lager. It is quite good and I would recommend that my fellow BA peeps give it a try.

This is from a brewery in Charleston, South Carolina. The can has a billy goat image usually indicative of Bock beer. I have yet to locate any German Oktoberfest imports in my area of Florida (the panhandle). Usually, they are available before the domestics.

I picked up a couple while in Destin, Florida today. The Paulaner is an old favorite while the Toppling Goliath is new to me.

Seems a little drier than years past, and not as much toasty breadiness. Maybe using the synamar for color method now?

I agree about the Pumking being off this year. I taste more of a Belgian twist and not as flavorful as in past years. Warlock is still great and my favorite.

Have you tried Great Lakes Oktoberfest? I'm really loving that one this year.

Never seen that one around here, so no I have not tried it. If it's as well-made as their porter I can see why you're loving it.
