Hey Man, no apologies necessary. It's just a little heated debate. It's healthy

As with every seasonal release, I'll be using this to supplement my hauls from the border states. By now the complainers should understand that nothing is going to change until we elect a government that is openly committed to substantial liquor law reform. Until that happens, all you can do is support the interesting taps, retail listings, and one-offs from your local brewers, continue shopping down south, home brew, and grab the occasional LCBO beer that happens to grab your attention (in the hope that the Board and/or agencies will bring in beers of a similar calibre). I also find it hilarious that, while so many people are bitching about our retail selection, Rogue is launching a dozen or so draught beers in the province (one of the biggest developments in Ontario in the last 10 years) and no one has anything to say about it. I guess if it's not negative, it doesn't get discussed? :slight_frown:

Rogue is not a brewery that I'm incredibly excited about. I haven't had anything of theirs that I've liked enough to re-purchase when I'm in the States, so having them here isn't the most exciting news ever.

I feel the opposite way. Almost all of their beers rank as a solid "A-" or higher for me, especially the ones that are coming to Ontario bars. I can't help but smile at the thought of fresh Yellow Snow on tap.

I like the majority of what Rogue does. Having had Rogue on tap in Alberta, fresh Yellow Snow, Brutal IPA, Chateau Dirtoir Black Lager et al. on tap is hard to beat.

Even if I didn't like Rogue, I would wish them spectacular success because successful importation breeds more importation, growth and selection.

Bah... was just told today that my store will not be getting most (maybe 3..... don't get me started...) of this release. So glad i'm hitting Sudbury and can do the drive to T.O to get the rest... The things I will do for craft beer.

meh. at least there are plenty more ontario options available now than previously. at the LCBO, was nice to bring 5-6 new locally brewed beer home from a recent trip to TO. the market isnt over saturated in Ontario like it is elsewhere where its easy enough to find two year old bottles of beer collecting dust on an overcrowded shelf...

Unfortunately Rogue is one of the few US breweries that has sufficient volume to make it into the LCBO. The LCBO is all about high volume ordering to keep the price down. The majority of US micobreweries don't really have sufficient production capacity to supply a buyer with the purchasing power of the LCBO - they'd basically be shorting their home market to do so. With breweries like Allagash, Avery, etc. currently pulling out of US markets due to short supply you're unlikely to see much US beer in Ontario - maybe Sierra Nevada or New Belgium once they get their East Coast facilities up and running.

The only real solution is to have smaller orders, which would necessitate having independent retailers that could mark up the beers sufficiently to make a profit.

While I can't stand the LCBO's ridiculous testing procedures and slow time-to-market for hoppy beers, they're not really doing anything wrong from a business perspective. It's the lack of small-volume/high-margin vendors that is your real problem.
