I think many folks were questioning the bottle limit well ahead of the release, whether they posted them on this forum or not. Posting such concerns on here is not some requirement to get a license to be upset about being shutout. Some folks think that breweries will make adjustments to those limits day of to accommodate larger than expected crowds; it happens quite often.

Did the advocates in the line made sure to take care of all of the folks further back that didn't get bottles?

Without people posting it on the forum, saying they were questioning it beforehand rings rather hollow. Even if they did, they did it idly, which, to me, is the same as doing nothing at all.

I don't see an argument as to why one needs to post here to have a valid concern.

Because my point is that it wasn't really a concern if it didn't spur anyone to action. I was concerned, so I emailed the brewery AND showed up early.

Or people thought that "Hey, if they see how many people show up then they (Upright in this case) will adjust allotments to take care of their large customer/fanbase." That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Did you get bottles at the release?

Yes. Split a case with 2 other BAs.

Has Upright ever done that before? For that matter, has any Oregon brewery other than Oakshire done that? As far as I know, it's not common local practice, so I don't see why you should expect it to happen.

It does happen lots of other places around the country. That is where my expectations are built from. I am betting that it will start happening as the releases in Oregon are starting to look more like Midwest, SoCal, etc. releases.

I do not think Upright had any idea of what might transpire, usually even Sole Comps last a few days. They did alter their plan by opening the distro boxes.
Additionally, everyone I know that got cases was splitting them with 2-4 people, which seems to be the norm with Bas in Portland. Friend cant make a release, we hook them up.

There are numerous differences between the beer scene in Oregon and in other parts of the country. Each region has its local habits. I don't see why you were expecting Upright to adopt the practices of other areas rather than the norms of this area.

I have spent plenty of time in Portland and throughout Oregon and am aware of the differences in the beer scenes. I appreciate those differences.

As far as your question, you do see why I have those expectations. I clearly stated that. You just don't agree. That is okay, too. However, the beer scene in OR is starting to become more and more like other regions with regards to releases. Unless Oregon breweries start making changes to releases, more and more folks will be shut out as lines swell with the growing ranks of craft beer enthusiasts.

The only thing making these releases look more like the midwest and SoCal, is how many people from those areas are flying in for these releases making us Portlanders have to show up even earlier :grinning:

Really? There is no local groundswell of craft beer enthusiasm?

No, I understand _that_ you have those expectations. But I don't understand _why_ you have them. You may have a desire for breweries to change how they handle releases in the future, but why you had any rational expectation that this would have been the day that something different, and unannounced, was done regarding bottle limits seems unfathomable to me.

And doesn't the fact that they sold from their distro to accomodate people that took the time to go to the release make it a very "non-midwest" type of release?

Again, you can read, so I expect that with that you can answer your own misunderstandings here. You just don't agree. And again, that is okay. I am not hurt.

Yes, that was an awesome measure on their part. If they would have cut allocations, then those at the front would have been upset. I am not faulting Upright in any way. My comments were that it is not unreasonable to think that a brewery would change allocations due to release turnout. This is based on my experience, which I have stated above.

I actually wasn't hoping to get anything, just think it was fairly easy to predict it was going to be gone that day. Someone made the comment that there was no reason to assume it would sell out based on the way it sold last year and I am just disagreeing with that.

I'm not even suggesting Upright should have done anything different. In my eyes they've never done anything but make their fanbase their top priority. I am sure they will adjust accordingly next time.

They started selling their distribution bottles during the Blend Love release as well (though they didn't sell out, the remaining bottles went into distribution). I figured they would have learned from this and go with 4-6 bottle for this release, but nope they didn't. Am I bummed I missed out, of course, do I think they made a mistake by not lowering the bottle limit, definitely, but it's their choice to make not mine. My choice was easy, stay at work so I'll have money to purchase beer later.
