While enjoying a long weekend in South Beach with my wife, I've been very pleasantly surprised by the still small, yet blossoming craft scene. Being from Philadelphia, I did not expect much from SoBe, but a Thursday afternoon to Whole Foods kicked things off with an off the shelf sixer of Hopslam bottled on 1/23. Happy Valentines Day to me!

Next, we stopped at a relatively new beer and tapas bar, Clandestino for a $4 HH Two Hearted followed by my first CCB Maduro Brown. The food was meh, but the beer list was lengthy and solid. The owner Emanuel was driven, friendly and very open to suggestions from guests.

Eventually we made our way to Abraxus. I wish I could teleport this bar to my backyard! Unfortunately the taps were not functioning due to a CO2 situation, but the bottle/can list was awesomely extensive. Sprung for my first ever bottle of Cascade Kriek followed by my first Jai Alai. Pure heaven. Capped off the night with a wonderful Great Divide Yeti.

Looking forward to visiting Abbey Brewing tomorrow. No shortage of spectacular brews in this flashy beach town. So far, I'm really enjoying my visit and plan on returning every couple of years.

It's a great state with some loonies that give us a bad rep, but our breweries brew some damn good beer. Glad to here you are enjoying Florida. Cheers!

South Beach is an upscale area, so they actually have craft beer at a lot of the restaurants and bars. The prices can be high compared to other areas in the state, but you won't go thirsty looking for good beer. Glad you enjoyed it!

By the way, I just read this about an event they are having on Sunday at Abbey Brewing, so I would definitely go there on Sunday! http://www.southfloridabeerblog.com/2013/02/abbey-brewing-company-1-year-expansion.html

Miami's oldest peddler of craft beer, The Abbey Brewing Company, is celebrating the one year anniversary of it's expansion this Sunday, February 17th from 1pm-5am. To celebrate this special occasion, they will have an open bar from 1PM-2PM, (Select Draft Beers & Liquor), and 10 Craft Beer Taps to choose from, for $5 each, all day long! They will also have $5 shot & Mixed Drink Specials, for the non beer drinkers, and complimentary pub grub. You do not want to miss your chance to try the great selection at such a low price.
