    Not a terrible draw.

Four ounces of oats. No more. That seems to be the oddity here. .
Otherwise not a bad draw. Bittering from El Dorado, Mittlefrau in the middle and lager the hell out of it. Lime is going to be the center stage star. Mash for dryness. ABV 6%?

At least that's how I would play it. At this moment.

Good luck. Could be a winner.
    Edit.
I feel bad for Dorian. Strawberry? Coriander? Ha!

I’m thinking like a pound of flaked oats.... go big or go home. You get points off for “ignoring” an ingredient. Gonna be 9lbs MO 1lb oats, 8oz carahell. No 60 minute additions HMF at 30,15, WP. El dorado whirlpool. Dry hop with El Dorado and lime zest tincture. Lager for a month...

    Dorian.... poor Dorian

If one of the objectives is make each ingredient recognizable, seems like Matt L will have a challenge making coffee and ginger a tasty combo.

He’s a good brewer and he is hoping to get some dark roast astringency from the coffee since he got stuck with carafa instead of roasted barley.

It's the amber vanilla saison that I'm really interested in - surely French Saison is going to clash horribly with two different sorts of crystal, even before you add vanilla?

You could also make a pretty good hoppy beers of sorts with 34/70 fermented at 60-65. If you believe in biotransformation or not 34/70 is definitely one of the ones capable of it. Not sure how HM/El Dorado combo would work though.

Just curious, ground ginger or fresh ginger root?
Regardless.....sounds like fun and I hope yours turns out great.

I’m going for a dry hoppe lager. Going to ferment at 50 to keep it clean. The oats were my biggest regret.

Brewers choice. I’m guessing he goes fresh.

Oats in a lager. Honestly that seems like such a simple place to go and never once occurred to me it could be tried. As far as traditional ingredients go that is about as far off the style spectrum I can imagine. Good luck with that.

    Cheers.

This is a cool idea! You can tell some brewers went for tougher combinations than others. I'd guess they wanted to challenge themselves a bit. I'm with Dave on the Vanilla Saison. That should certainly be unique and pretty amazing if he pulls it off

I’ll use a good amount of oats because it’s points off if it’s obvious I’m trying to hide them. Von Trappe does a hazy IPL lager that is very good so I’ll be pushing for something along those lines.

Cool experiment. Hopefully the lime, El Dorado & HM jive, I would think they should.

So I didn’t win the competition.... the DME Hefeweizen won. It honestly was very good. My beer scored a 36 so overall I was pretty ecstatic. They stated that it had too much lime and while I agree I didn’t want to shy away from any ingredients and have them be hidden. I’ll take a pic when I get home.

Someone made a chocolate raspberry porter that wS very good. The vanilla saison tasted exactly like hard cream soda. The worst beer was the ginger beer. Straight up soy sauce with the dark malts and ginger melding in a weird way.
