But - you have to be ready to adjust on the fly in case "Just Tapped!!!" appears on the chalkboard behind the bar.

I do this. It's very helpful to know what's at a bar before heading over.

And let's not forget-- long before the internet there was CAMRA's Good Beer Guide. For anyone lucky enough to visit England, this was the go-to guide for planning the itenerary (or at lwast it was for me).

I rarely hit craft bars (or any drinking establishment for that matter...) anymore, and now when I do I stick to one beer and roll. This means that one beer had better be as well thought out as possible. I'm reading the tap list for a few places and decide where to go based on who has either something crazy good and a little rare or a new beer I'm excited to try. So, that's basically a long winded way of saying yes, I agree with a little recon work before going out!

Edit: When I first read the title I thought this would be along the lines of "you have 11 taps lines and need to create a lineup........".

I do this. I also check the tap lists of restaurants and bars in my area that I have no plans to visit.

or, you do all of this, and then get stressed when half way through the evening you realize there is a tap handle pouring that's not listed, and then think how you should have proceeded, had their board been up to date...

Glad I'm not the only one. I keep telling the people at Upland that maintaining a tap list would result in more business but they won't listen. At least take a picture of your board and put it on FB.

I always visit the beermenus website to check the current draft list. A bar that updates their page more often is much more likely to get my business. If it says last updated 2 weeks ago, I almost always opt to go somewhere else. Too many choices to leave it up to chance

If I'm going anywhere other than my usual place, then I'm not going to worry about what is on tap or in bottles: 1) because >95% places (craft and non-craft bars) around here don't bother to put their tap list online, and 2) if I get invited to go somewhere, I'm not going to say no just because there might be the off chance that the only thing available is BMC product.

Yeah I'm constantly checking Bernie's Tap Room's (in Waukesha) tap list on their website. It gets updated at least once a week and is far and away my favorite beer bar
