I think last years batch of Dark White was fantastic. I bought a case and every bottle has been realy good.
I suspect the Pissenlit from last year might be slightly infected (also bought a case of that :slight_frown:)

I live in Brussels, and I heard of Fantôme from an American friend maybe 5 years ago...

What I heard : well, not much. Indeed, not many people know about it here. Chez Moeder Lambic won't stock it because they say quality is inconsistent. I myself have had surprises when buying bottles (didn't taste at all like it did the last time I had one, that sort of thing... more below).

What I think : I like it a lot when it's a "good" bottle. And I like the creativity / many different kind he brews. Though it doesn't always work... Magic Ghost was fun and nice, and then I had a tangerine beer the second time I went to Soy, and thought it was absolutely disgusting.
Once I brought a bottle to a friend's place, which, I assure you, wasn't shaken (haha), and when we opened it, pretty much everything exploded out in a second's time..

More importantly, my question to Americans, though: how is Fantôme "legendary"???
I mean, come on... the least one can expect from a "legendary" brewery is consistent quality, in my humble opinion. And then the beer is good, sure, but Belgium is a "big country" when it comes to beer, and it's not like he definitely stand out of the crowd.
I think Dupont is much better overall than Fantôme, for example...

Last bottle we opened popped with such force that the cork and the substantial/heavy corkscrew out of the owner's hand and hit the 3m ceiling with enough force to leave a mark. Tasted like a tire fire too.

    This.

Fantome got famous in the US because it's an old school, one man operation on a farm, and it's quaint and a romantic notion of the old days.

What I don't understand is why Brasserie de Blaugies has not attained "legendary" status in the US. It's a quaint, tiny farmhouse operation, the beer is miles better than Fantome (Saison D'Epeautre might just be my favorite saison) and it has great quality control. You never get infected batches or poor quality product from them.

I've been drinking Fantome beers for years, and I've never had a bad bottle though I've heard horror stories so I know they exist. Have also had the pleasure of visiting the brewery, but that is another story.

It just did Dany, I'm kind of warped, ask anybody that knows me.

Wait, are you referring to me laughing or the dog?
