I'm putting together a BA meetup at Brauhaus Faust in Miltenberg. I work in the brewery and will be able to give a detailed tour in English (or a shitty tour in German). Afterwards, I suggest that we have dinner at "Zum Riesen", which has all of Faust's regular beers on tap as well as some harder to find offerings. It would be pretty cool if everyone brought some bottles of their local favorites so that we could do a mega-swap.

I'm currently considering weekends in April, so please vote on what time works best for you. If you aren't going to be able to make this meetup but would still like to see the brewery, shoot me a message and we'll find a date that will work.

Both of those dates work for me. I'm flexible regarding the time of day but I guess I'd prefer the afternoon so I could catch an evening train home. Would prefer a shitty German tour.

Are significant others and/or 2 year old children welcome?

    Thanks for the invite!

I'm good with family and friends coming along. I'd be happy to give a tour summary in German after a couple of beers. My German becomes nearly perfect after 1.5 L of beer.

Or is it that after 1.5L of beer you think your German is better? An audio version of the beer goggles effect?

    Prost!

Would love to, Matt.... But I am US based and take only 1 trip to Germany per year, typically at the end of Sept, start of Oct.... I know I should easily look this up on my DB page, but is Miltenberg on a major rail line, or on a spur off of one? Hope to visit in Herbst...

    Prosit!!

There's an ICE connection to Aschaffenburg. Miltenberg is about 40 min south of there on a branch line.

Matt, just sent you a BM and after doing so, realized that you are most likely not German.

Where are you from? A wild guess says a fellow American finding himself in Germany, but I have been known to be wrong...

It's about an hour and 3/4 from Frankfurt Flughafen to Miltenberg by train.

How soon do you need a definitive response, @MattRiggs ? I would prefer the Easter weekend date, but I have two small kids here and have to get in negotiations with my wife, maybe I'll have a new job in April, etc. etc. Would love to come, but as it looks I can only give a definitive response on short notice. Plus, I would surely be coming by car, so I would also need a place to stay for the night if I want to drink beer.

Proceed with caution. I got a Voucher of Preliminary Approval for Miltenberg from die Frau last week, and she is already starting to use it against me. I was teasing her about her choice of TV shows, for example. She said, "I watch junky TV to relax. You troll the internet looking for strange men to meet for a beer, and I watch junky TV."

I mean, she makes it all sound so...so...so unsavory.

100% true story, by the way.

I used to play a lot of golf and I met some playing partners through a golf forum. My mother was appalled that I was going to meet strangers from the internet even though we were meeting at a golf course. My wife of 20 years didn't care, but my Mom did!

I don't have a cutoff date for reservations. If the group is small enough, I'll just give a private tour and we can do the tasting/beer trading portion at my apartment or a nearby bar. If there's going to be any more than 5 people, I really should coordinate it through the tour guy at the brewery so we don't get in another tour's way.

Since this thread is about Brauhaus Faust as well somehow, I'll just post this here. See what I found today in a Getränkemarkt in Mainz:

I already made my choices and was on my way out to pay, but seeing this for only € 8.99, I couldn't resist. I'm especially looking forward to the Schwarzviertler and Doppelbock, haven't had these before.

That is exactly what happened with my Schneider Weisse "Probier" pack - I was on my way out when I saw the pack and decided to grab it for €8,99. Let us know how it is! Faust's Schwarzviertler is really delicious.

Sweet, I'm definitely interested in this but can't confirm a date quite yet. I'm temporarily located in Mainz until the end of april so I'll have to look for the pack danfue found. Which getränkemarkt was that?

It's Getränkeland Ziegler, right off the Autobahn-exit Mainz-Weisenau. They have some other goodies from Bayern and Franken as well. And they carry the Störtebeker Atlantik Ale in crates. The only store I know of here where you can buy a crate of Pale Ale without having to pay 2 or 3 € per (small) bottle.

    Wait... 6 beers (one near-beer) and a Krug for € 8.99? ($12 US)? Now that's a wow beer!

They also sell the same package in the brewery's online shop. But for € 11 plus shipping. Made a good deal I guess.
