No surprises there, but macros have to do whatever it takes to keep their market share. The Goose Island purchase was huge, and unless they fuck it up, it should pay off massively for them.

Fact: Saratoga Lager is a delicious beer and the tap room at the Olde Saratoga Brewing Co. is an awesome place to hangout and drink free beer all evening while watching a Yankee game.

I don't understand people sometimes......I understand the culture of craft beer. I see it everyday and live it. I work in the business and still am blown away. WHO CARES IF THE LIQUID IS MAIN STREAM! I could care less if miller, coors or AB own it. Lets focus on the LIQUID, if its good drink it. Goose Island didn't sell out! its great beer and people demanded more, the owner John Hall was ready to retire and didn't want to spend 50 mil to upgrading tanks to supply the rest of the country. AB gave them a hop farm and a tremendous amount of support to test and create new wonderful beers. LETS NOT BE SNOBS. Drink great beer!

Well I do feel like Goose Island IPA tasted better before the buyout, it used to be one my favorites, now it's just okay...Am I the only one that thinks this? Maybe so...maybe my palette changed during the buyout.

I really don't care what anyone else drinks. As long as people are involved in business there will be honest ones and tricky ones. Pick who you like, and try not to watch too much TV.

    This.

I don't even like the term "craft beer" because it implies that beer has to be "small" to be "good." Now, much like pop music, the lesser known, lesser distributed stuff IS better, but it's not always the case. If it's good, it's good. Who cares who owns it?

I hate, hate, hate the term craft beer. I also hate BMC. How does that make sense? Because labels are stupid. Drink great beer, period. Doesn't matter who makes it. Why does beer need a label such as 'craft'? If it's good, people will drink it. There is so such thing as craft wine, yet people are smart enough to drink good wine. Labels are for idiots.

Some consumers want to know the corporate ownership of what they're buying, and of course they should have that information, so I applaud any effort to get the word out.

Many people do care where their beer comes from and where they get it; they choose what to buy because of the corporate behavior of the retailers and/or manufacturers. You know, they make an ethical choice. Since ethics are individual, one person may not care about one issue and another may live and die over it.

Now that part about crowding does happen, same with General Mills and cereal, etc. Big companies often make crap products that they expect to fail just to crowd out other brands. But, that just means there's a niche waiting to be filled by a store that doesn't just stock more and more stuff from the big companies. Economics!

It's up to us to educate ourselves on all goods we consume. We should stop making excuses for people being too lazy to educate themselves. Those are exactly the ones they need for their marketing to succeed.

Near as I can tell the author's big beef is that "National distribution = Not craft". That's one way to classify it I suppose. Kind of beer snobby to dismiss a beer based on its corporate ownership and distribution, but to each their own.

This. And also, am I the only one who kind of likes the idea of being able to obtain these beers that I normally wouldn't be able to if it weren't for BMC distribution?

Who cares how large the brewhouse is. If the beer tastes good, enjoy it. That's all you need.

I personally like the Term Craft beer Just because It feels as though it is more of a quality product such as when someone says something of high quality is Hand Crafted for you I like it. As for big brewers backing the small...as long as the Original Brew Company is Making the same brew I have no Issue with it.

Do you drink craft wine, eat craft chicken, eat kraft Macaroni n cheese (oops dont answer that  ) or use craft toilet paper? You dont need a label to tell the world you have discerning taste.
