Although I keep a good selection of beer at all level of abv, I have found that beers in the 7% range are my favorites for all around consumption if I plan to have 4-6 beers in an evening. I don't get too loopy and don't feel as though I've just had 4-6 glasses of water. So, less than 7% = session beers for me, i.e. more than 6 in an evening and more than 7% = beers that I will only have 1 or 2 in an evening. Anyone else have a favorite abv?

If I drank a sixer of 6.5% beer over the course of the evening I'd be 'faced.

I prefer 4-5% ideally, but if I were to limit myself to such I'd miss out on way too many good beers. Over the course of an evening I might have a 7% or higher brew plus two 5% or lower brews.

    My preferred ABV are:
    10% for imperial stouts
    8% for double IPA's
    10% for barley-wines
5-6.5% for session-able pale ales, lagers ect

I gravitate towards the 7+ range. An occasional light Cantillon is nice but I get sick drinking low abv beers in the 5% and under range.

It all depends. I've gotten blitzed on 4% cask ales, and I've walked away stone-cold sober from tastings where the average beer was 10%+. If maintaining a nice buzz without getting too deep is the goal, then I find pace to be far more important than ABV.

Why should I have to limit my options when I can just pay attention to how fast I'm imbibing?

As far as a qualitative preference for a given ABV goes, it varies based on style. I like my hop-bombs right around 8%, as I find that strength gives you enough body to stand up to a maximum dose of dankness without letting the ethanol flavor distract from everything else. Saisons I tend to like a little lighter, like 6%. Barleywines anything up to 15%, provided the FG is massive enough to keep the booziness in the background. For sours, the traditional Lambic range of 5-6% is perfect.

All beers under 6 % suck. I dont see a reason for even making them.

I know that I dont like to taste much alcohol in my beer. Other than that, I could care less what the ABV is.

I forgot to add that there's food in between the beers.

I don't think he has had a lot. There are buttloads of amazingly delicious brews under 6%.

I prefer an ABV of 40% or higher, so I end up drinking a lot of Sink the Bismarck!

You're skipping over a lot of good brews with that attitude. Oh well more for me.

Yup, ive had it. Like I said, it sucks. If I wanted something that tastes like water, I would just go to my faucet.

This is true for me except special situations. If I want to get bombed it's usually easier to pound light beers, or if I don't it's nice to have some lower abv options as well. High abv for me usually just leads to buzzed not bombed.

i tend to really enjoy beers in the 6.5%-7.5% range. 2 or 3 of those a night and i am feeling good.

No, I don't have a favourite ABV. To be overly concerned about it is just the tail wagging the dog.
