Agree on River Horse - I eventually found a use for it though - cooking! Great Crab Risotto with Tripel from BA magazine a few months ago!

I can't believe it's taken 1+ pages for Merry Monk's to get a mention - it is hands down my go-to US tripel.

I haven't had too many tripels, but the best I've had of my limited samplings was Tallgrass Velvet Rooster.

I didn't care for Tripel Karmeliet either. Before declaring tripels done, try two more Belgians: St. Bernardus for a beer with a bit more depth of flavor than Karmeliet (according to my tongue); and Houblon Chouffe for an interesting combo of Belgian Tripel and West-Coast DIPA. Perhaps that last one is cheating, but still...

When I comes to North American triples as far as I am concerned there's the two triples made by Allagash and then there's nothing else.

Give GI's "The Ogden" a whirl.

I will agree that the Lickinghole Creek Three Chopt Tripel is very good. I also really enjoyed the Green Flash Trippel.

I don't need to check it. That's a Canadian beer.

Oh yes. Brewer's Art Green Peppercorn is amazing.

As @MisterGone said Houblon Chouffe is a hoppy triple, and although it doesn't conform to the classic style if you are a hop head it might be worth checking out anyway.

Yes, but this is not an American Tripel.

If it must be American, I suppose Allagash, though I haven't had it in awhile.

Have you tried Westmalle Tripel? It's considered the bench mark for the style. I'd give that one a shot as a last ditch effort if you haven't tried it already.

Tripel Karmeleit is 3 grains- barley, wheat, and oats- as much as a Tripel. To me it drinks more like a big delicious Belgian Blonde without the sweetness of many Tripels. And, La Fin Du Monde is Canadian.
