I vote Wine barrels; when a hit (rather than a miss) the result is very tasty indeed.

It depends on the beer. I like the white wine barrel and the saison very much, the red wine barrel and the baltic porter, the bourbon barrel and more than one style and I like whiskey barrels for beer as well as cognac. . I dislike tequilla and rum barrels for beer in general. Not crazy about flavored brandy barrels like calvados for beer.

I really enjoy bourbon barrel aging- It is classic and adds so much complexity to beer- especially Strong beers like stouts and barleywines. I think the vanilla, coconut, and whiskey flavors really can be masterful when applied properly.

I also have enjoyed the uniqueness of Tequilla barrels recently. It seems this is a newer trend that I have enjoyed so far as well.

Bourbon, but oak anything is best, even just plain oak or aged on oak chips. I absolutely love the taste of oak in beer.

Given my palate Whiskey is Whiskey, no way I could tell you which was which. Bourbon, Rye, Blended Whiskey's as it is used to influence aging of beer for me are the same. I've never had a great rum barrel brew, the ones I've had are ok nothing more, Cognac as well. I'd bet if you took a dark estate rum aged forever in oak, and sat it for two years it would be phenomenal. No interist in tequila or gin with beer.

Apple Brandy Noir is far and away my favorite barrel-aged beer of all time.

Bourbon is good for almost any age-able style and my favorite type barrel.

I also like plain (brand new) oak barrels.

I like Woodford barrels, generally. Those and cabernet. The local to me brewery Eudora did an English barleywine in a cabernet barrel, and it's delicious.
