For me the original and greatest will always be Pelican Brewing's Mother of All Storms. Every year, November rolls around and I grab a case of it. I find it curiously comforting. Like slipping on a weathered pair of boots come fall/winter.

If you haven't had it, definitely seek it out.

Not bourbon, but the Lagavulin cask-aged Harvest Ale by J.W. Lees is a delight.

Sebago '13 was right on par with some of the big boys but ADWTD is by far the best one I have ever had.

Wanted to add, wine barrel aged etc can be included. I've found that apple brandy, wine etc all add a real nice touch to barley wines just as they do to stouts.

One of my favorite aged barley wines (Torst front room) is aged in Malaga (sweet wine) barrels, so much flavor. Sad I only have two left...

If we're including wine barrels, Mirror Mirror by Deschutes makes my list.

Just tried Coop Territorial Reserve barleywine (2012) last night and it was sublime.

I'm not a huge barley wine fan but ADWTD and MOAS are both delicious. I drain poured CW BBBW. To each their own!

    Bourbon County. Much preferred fresh.

    Sucaba. Much preferred aged.

I love Gnarlywine but that is not a BA Barleywine. Neither are Old Horizon or Old Guardian. Good selection of BW for sure but not aged in any sort of barrel as far as I know.

Weyerbacher Insanity is so easy to find, inexpensive for the style, and delicious.
Jackie O's BBA Brick Kiln is excellent, but expensive.
Hoppin' Frog BBA Naked Evil is very good, but quality/cost ratio has me looking elsewhere.
Uinta Cockeyed Cooper is very solid (caveat: I've only had it with 2+ years age).
Deschutes Mirror Mirror is magnificent. The (non-bourbon) barrel is relatively subtle, but effective.
Heavy Seas Cabernet Barrel Below Decks is different, delicious, and inexpensive for the style.
JW Lees in Lagavulin casks was outstanding, but that 275 mL bottle is for sharing.
Pelican Mother of All Storms is one of the greatest creations of humankind. Seek it out, and pay the price.

(Wish I could comment on Sucuba, Central Waters, Bourbon County. Some day.)

I never will understand the desire for Sucuba. It doesn't suck balls but seems so far below most of the others here.

Came here to say this. Not 100% bourbon barrels, but damn tasty. Also, DDBA and §ucaba.

Last night, I two great barrel aged barleywines on tap:
    • Sun King - Tin Star (Bourbon barrel with dark cherries and figs)
    • Upright - Barrel Aged Barleywine (Bourbon & Rum)

Barleywines are probably my favorite style. I always enjoy the incarnations of this thread and seeking out new ones I haven't had yet.
