Sam Calagione's Brewing Up a Business was a good read.

Hi met Josh at GABF while neither one of us were signing books. Nice guy with a great book.

The neat thing about Garrett's Brewmaster's Table is that he gives you just enough background and history to make you want to learn more. While it's a food pairing book on the surface, that's really only a small portion of the content.

I think Tom Acitelli's the Audacity of Hops and Maureen Ogle's Ambitious Brew are also great in terms of "modern" beer history. For older history, like colonial beer, check out "Beer in America: The Early Years" -- Beer has come a very very long way since then.

Stan Heironymous' Brew Like a Monk provides very good insight into Trappist breweries and no homebrewer should be without Ray Daniels' Designing Great Beers. Some of the recipe suggestions and the parameters of certain styles are dated because, well, the book is a little older (at least for those sort of things) but the technical information and formulas involved really help provide a better fundamental understanding of what's going on inside your brew.

And if you're really technically adept, get Noonan's New Brewing Lager Beer.

I liked Pete Brown's book "Hops and Glory". Its about his trek to discover the beer that built the British Empire – the IPA. His journey gets a bit old but the background on all that it the original IPA is great. Plus some of the others mentioned by Garrett Oliver and Randy Mosh (standards).

Great book. I got to meet Joshua last year at the book release party at the Brooklyn Brewery. Nice guy.

I just got the hardback version. It's very nice. A beer encyclopedia from A-Z.

Has anyone read the book FOAM: Practical Guides for Beer Quality? If so, is it pretty good? I've been contemplating purchasing it but haven't due to price.

Being the information junkie I am, I was wondering if anybody had recommendations on films or books about anything beer related. Thanks!

Pete Brown has three other books about beer, and they are also good reads. He tells amusing stories in his writings about his beer travels which make the books fun to read.
